wiggly op rod guide?

It shouldnt move at all ..it is an easy fix though .
Take a punch and remove the pin and slide the op rod guide forward.Take a center punch and make alot of dimples on the barrel , put some red loctite there and replace the op rod guide.
Here is a thread with some pics I put on here awhile ago about it and unitizing the gas system as well.

It gets peened alright but not so carefully.
Hungry would be the one to ask about that.
Once you dimple the barrel to tighten it up. You can pin it on and then drive another smaller roll pin inside the other pin. It makes it really tight.

Lock tide maybe not the best thing .... the barrel can get pretty hot and will melt the lock tide better use some high temp epoxy

If you're close to Owen Sound, there is an M14 clinic this Saturday. Hungry will be there in person throwing out shims and roll pins like a madman.
You will learn to strip your M14/305 and properly lube it, and will get to tighten your op rod guide and flash hider plus shim your gas assembly and likely do a poor man's trigger job. All for the crazy price of $35.

This but do both, problem solved.
i understand you lubing and everything, i lube my rifles religuesly and it still does not help
As for peening my barrel i dont feel comfortable doing it myself just in case i screw up and hit to hard. is there anyone in Ontario that can do this for me?

Just checked my M305 after the last range trip. Mine is loose, another "upgrade" to do. I'm starting to run out of "bolt on" fixes for my norc. Need to start shimming and indexing mods. Missed the clinics when Barney came thru. Should have called in sick.
After seeing how much effort it can take to get the Norc muzzle brake off, I don't think you can hit these too hard lol...
Seriously though, it just takes a light tap with a mallet to peen the barrel...after the first couple taps you'd get a feel for it no problem

haha ya probably i just dont need to mess it up more then it already is haha.
It is NORMAL for the op-rod guide to be loose and shouldn't be a problem.
However, to increase consistency in the gas system (and therefore accuracy) you may want to tighten it up. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A REPLACEMENT ROLL PIN!!!. The chinese ones almost always crack when you remove them. Like everyone's said, put two lines of dimples around the barrel where the guide sits and put some red loctite on it. You should have to hit the guide into place with a rubber mallet, and it should not be easy. Otherwise, it is not tight enough.
We did this at the clinic I went to, but I did not make big enough dimples and it only took a couple taps with the mallet to get the guide into place. After shooting, the guide has rotated slightly, but because it is not loose, it is sticking off-center causing my spring to rub when I work the op rod. SO MAKE SURE IT IS TOIGHT!
