Wild accuracy on my 10/22 - what could be the cause?

Agree with just about every 10-22 post,, tighten it up and clean it. When my groups start to expand with the 10-22 its one of those 2 things, but don't expect 1" at 100,, cheap and accurate,, Savage Mk2 with some good glass it's a gopher sniper rifle

IF you are in BC, come to the range tomorrow, I will give you some CCI standard velocity, best ammo I have ever shot.
 
Try every bulk ammo you can get your hands on. You'll be surprise how much difference it makes. Each of my pistol/rifle likes a different ammo.

CCI mini-mags should be consistent with most 22lr, too bad that ammo is expensive for plinking.

I think the .22LR is the best fun you can have with a gun. I mean it's so cheap to shoot I can spend hours and hours just plinking away. Then I can visit a gopher town with my
BL-22 and go Chuck Connors Rifleman all over their furry little butts. What's not to love about that? ;)
A nice Browning T-Bolt with a heavy (target) barrel might get you the kind of accuracy you're looking for.

I have a mod 60. Had one ftl with federal 525 I was using up. Zero ftf and zero fail to eject. I clean the action every 800 ish rounds to keep it form getting gummed up. The factory trigger kind of sucks so I put a dip trigger and guard on it. Trigger has almost no creep now and no over travel seems to have gotten lighter as well. As I said before accuracy is excellent. I do what to try it with some sk standard or eley to see what happens.

my latest 10/22 seems to like cheap WW Dyna Point ammo...

you know why hi capacity mags are so easy to find for 10/22's?
because you need them to hit anything :p

fwiw My old $40 Cooey 64B will out group any factory 10/22 I've owned...go figure...
 
my CZs are amazing. my CZ452 22mag would shoot under 1" @ 100yds. CZ 513 shoots 1/2" at 50yds I also shoot a 8"gong at 250yds with it. I have shot a CZ455 of a friends with similar results.

Every 10/22 I have shot I was not impressed. I have shot other peoples tricked out 10/22s and they are alright but I would put my bolt guns up against them anytime.
 
so if I have never taken the barrel off, are you guys saying that it's possible that the screws for the barrel were loose from the factory, or that they come loose through light use?

Yes you can or pretty darn close, this one is under going some changes right now that should tighten those groups.

If you want, you could get a short, heavy barrel and a lighter trigger and different ammo, but that might cost as much as a new 22 bolt gun with a heavy barrel that is known for accuracy. I say get a Savage Mark II. Mine can do 10 shots @ 100 yards at just over 1".

My 10/22 would destroy any savage it ever shot beside at 50 yards. Guys pay thousands of dollars tightening groups on centerfire then hate on 10/22 owners with less than a grand into it. I don't get it.

There I fixed it for you, I do not know a single person in the shooting world that hates on 10/22 owners. And "Less then a grand into it" Is implying you have close to a grand into it, they arent hating on the gun, they are laughing at YOU for putting so much cash into a pellet gun. I don't question why you did it, everyone can do whatever they want with their firearms, but 1000 dollars on a 10/22 might get you some ribbing.

And to 22forever, looks like redmeat had it bang on, your set up looks like it cost MORE then 700 , and at 50 yards , you would probably be doing 1/2" to 3/4" groups. Nice gun and groups by the way.

Hey OP, if you cant figure it out, just send the beast back.
