Wild boars on the loose in Ontario are likely homegrown, says official

Anyone here every seen these boars out in eastern Ontario before? I'm moving out that way this fall and would love to have that as a hunting opportunity.

Nope. Never even seen any sign of them. But one hunter out here did get himself in trouble looking for them. Because he is an idiot.
 
"...likely homegrown." What an idiotic statement; of course they are homegrown. They are either feral domestic pigs, or escaped European boar; either way it's pretty clear they didn't evolve on their own in Ontario (or anywhere else in North America). They arrived as a result of human intervention.

I wonder how much it cost in tax dollars and research for some government talking head to come up with that pearl of wisdom.

Back in the 80's and 90's I hunted both types (Euros and ferals) in the states; a friend owned land near one of the game preserves, and Euros were regular escapees that mixed freely with the already abundant ferals. Both varieties were ecologically destructive critters that plowed up wild and agricultural lands like miniature John Deere tractors. The guys who are wishing that we had more of these things running around just to increase their hunting opportunities are being very short-sighted.
