Anyone know if there have been any sightings of wild hogs in Ontario. With Michigan having such a wide spread problem with them I wondered if they had spread to Ontario. If they they do will the MNR deny the existance of them like the cougar?I know they cause alot of damage and the farmers won't like them but I would love to have a year round open season on these imaginary animals.Shouldn't be a problem with shooting them cause they won't exist and I won't be gouged for licences to hunt them.

I doubt the OMNR would deny the existance of hogs if there were any. These things can cause huge damage. The OMNR really only denies cougars because most sightings have been of escapies, and not natives. However, just because cougars dont "exist" in Ontario, they are still listed as an Endangered Species. Shoot one and get caught and you WILL regret it.

"...any sightings of wild hogs in Ontario..." No.
"...won't be gouged for licences to hunt them..." You need a hunting licence to hunt anything in Ontario.
"...MNR deny the existance of them like the cougar..." No proof. All the sightings alleged to be cougars are from people who just think they saw a cougar. No clear pictures, carcasses or anything else.
Fix your space bar.

There were a few near Walter Falls 10 years ago or so. Escapees from a farm. The farmer where I deer hunt bagged 2 of them. I havent heard anything for a long time so I'm sure they all got killed by now.

Undisclosed location ! I was personally invited to help the farmer friend but no sightings for three days but HE was quite sure that the crop damage could have not been done by anything othe than boars and few mixed tracks but nothing else ( north west of BARRIE )

A bunch of Boars escaped either last year or two years ago south of Ottawa. All but one where either recaptured, shot or struck by cars. In the same are a herd of Fallow deer escaped as well, some where found and recaptured but two or three are still at large.

US boar hunters swear up & down, that spilled canned corn, poured into a shallow dug hole, and almost covered up with dirt, is a good way to lure any pig.
Thing is in Canada, one is apt to accidently lure black bears, raccoons and other such critters too!
Bad news perhaps........

Somewhere between Long Sault and St. Andrews west. I had boar tracks several years ago but have yet to see one. We used to have one of the exotic game farms around here. He had a few escapees over the years but was very successful in most cases to have captured them.

I have heard of Pigs near the minising swamp but never seen any probably a rumour. I was coming home the other day from my camp WMU48 and seen 5 pigs on the side of the rd. Was wondering if they were ferel no one in the area has pigs to my knowledge I am going to contact the MNR about it.

I'm absolutely certain I saw one. It was about a year ago, at
45.191716, -75.759745. It was just dark, but there was a bright moon. This big black hairy pig was running through a freshly cut corn field. It was moving fast, as though it had some place to be. I called MNR, because I found something on the internet stating they were interested in wild pig sightings. They seemed appreciative of the call, said that they weren't indigenous to this area, and that they thought most/all were escapees.

Thats probably where I was. I knew it was south of 43 and west of cornwall.

The boar and fallow deer houdini's happen to be 20 mins from my place and 5 mins from where I hunt! ;)

The closer you get to the Quebec border the more "exotic" meat farms there seem to be and hence more escapees. More than once I have seen fallow and Red deer loose. There were also a few buffalo that escaped a hobby farm in the same area as the Boars and deer. If I was only ready with a rifle I could have had an excellent mixed grill.

I saw one near Guelph last year, I flushed it in the tall grass. The thing ran right at me.....scared the crap out of me. :D

I'd love to shoot one in fact I'm going to Texas in the spring for feral hogs. Very cheap and there is no limit & I can use the hand gun as back up.

Funny you said Guelph, a couple of winters ago some one reported seeing a dead one on the shoulder of the 401 near Princess Auto on the west side of Kitchener. Where were you near Guelph?
