Wild Pigs in Saskatchewan

I have lived at Kenosee for the past 25 years, and shot one bore, they are not running around every were, they are hard to get. You have the most luck in the winter when the snow is too deep and they are forced out of the woods and into the farm land. Then you have a chance to see them and shoot them. If you go out to get one around this area, I wish you luck, you will need it

Well you just ruined my day...

What about farmers in the area....if the boars are a such a problem shouldn't they have an idea where there at?

I am confused...I guess the farmers are just crying wolf then...and collecting crop damage???

Sunday afternoon I got me some pork chops. The 450 Marlin clobbered these little piggies.

I personally really liked the Greek pork rib marinades, for a two days in a fridge before the BBQ. Nothing in this world like it!!!

Out there in British California, do they castrate the moose, elk, deer, bears, etc? :confused::confused::confused::confused:

Just curious............ :rolleyes:

Does the meat taste a little strong? :p

Yes I was in Saskatchewan when I got em. Walking coulees in the fog and rain. I can't give an exact area cause this where I also do my deer hunting. Shot one sow and boar as they went out the far side of the draw. The rest of the herd went back in to the bush when I got the lead boar. I packed the two back to the truck and called a buddy to come for some backup or at least someone to dial 911 if things went south in the bush. We went back in to the bush and I walked right up on another boar and shot him facing me at about ten yards. I then missed the sow with him twice as she was going through the willows.She stopped at about fifteen yards in an opening and just looked at me. I called to the guy with me to get over to me as there was another pig. He came around the bushes as she came down to about ten yards and put her ears out and puffed up her hair. I yelled to him to shoot that $%#^$ in the head before she charged us and heard the click as he pulled the trigger on the borrowed enfield 303 jungle carbine. Luckily she turned tail and left so we set out up the draw after her and found her in a patch of buffalo berries about two hundred yards up the draw. This time the enfield went bang and she came running out the end by me at ten yards and I got off one quick shot before the next bush and put her down. I know now that I will check my pockets better before I head in after them I could have sworn that I had a half dozen shells with me before but when I was looking for them none. They make you feel pretty small when they are giving you the stare down and all I had was this fancy bat with a stainless steel handle. For the guys looking if you know an area that has them ask around at the local coffee shop and the farmers will either have them or know the guys that do. Most don't ever see them but see the damage that they do to their crops.
 
Check with SERM (Sask Environment) they gave us a major talk about wild pigs at the SWF convention in 2008 at Prince Albert. Said the pigs were going to be even worse than rats if something was not done.

Try anywhere in the South Sask river valley. We've got a cabin up at Riverhurst and word is there are some there and have even moved down the river valley to the Moose Jaw area. Im in Moose Jaw and pigs are being spotted at Buffalo Pound Lake. There are also a number up by Leader and around the Lemsford Ferry. Watch out for big cats cause they are now know to be in the same areas as these pigs, we've got a warning in Moose Jaw right now as cougars are seen all the time in the valleys and are killing dogs.
Im heading out on my quad when it dries up and going with my .243 to look for some "bacon":D

I don't think you can compare a pig with wild game that ruts once a year.
I was at a livestock auction when they ran a 500 lb + mature boar into the ring. It sold for $5.00 iirc. The only use it has is sperm donation.

Count me in. Keep in informed when the snow goes down there. Me and a neighbour want to go do some pig hunting and we were gonna go to kennedy as there are some rumors of a big herd there. Ill maybe make a trip to my local SERM office and go have a chat with them about pigs in my area or if they know of were there are some close to me. But id make a trip down to moose jaw just to go for a ride and see
