Wild TV Predator Quest

Well last I looked the bush starts at Prince Albert-I live 100 miles north of North Battleford-you go through about 50 miles of solid bush to get here than it opens up for 30 or so miles then its solid bush again. I used to guide up here and to my knowledge nobody grows food plots for deer-most just bait. Seen some guge bucks that lived their lives wintering on jackpine moss-so you don't need those wonder weeds they try and sell you on the tube. It's legal to bait here but I have trouble sitting still for very long-we keep a bait going for the friends of the kids who live in town but we hardly ever hunt it ourselves. Check on it when were stillhunting through. The rut was really strong here this year somew good bucks taken-my son shot a 185 gross whitetail so he has bragging rights ion the playground. I think Les Johnson is a pretty cool guy-most shows he has a little fresh trick or two if you know much about hunting coyotes.

I dunno, Deer and Deer Hunting show is pretty good and I love watching coyotes get blown up.

The Canadian shows are high in homo factor. Canada and Beyond...blah, he should ditch the ### black leather and camo jacket and do a better bit on the storage building commmercial.....Angler and Hunter...double blah.....sorry Cam.

Those boys on Hunting Canada and Beyond kill some great animals-they know what they're doing-probably the biggest mulies shot on any Wild Tv show are shot by them. Dwight Schuh and Craig Boddington are two guys I'd hunt with any day.

My standard question to statements like this are....then what distance do you consider it real hunting? What is that magic yardage mark that makes you a real hunter?

h

I tend to agree with you, but I will say that shooting a grizzly at 800 yards can be a risky thing. It's not some whitetail deer, and you are going ot have to follow it up at one point.

More importantly- You are cheating yourself out of one of the biggest natural "highs" you can get with hunting- engaging a grizzly bear at reasonably close distance.

While I agree there may be some safety issues with shooting large carnivores at long ranges and that the average hunter likely shouldn't be taking these extreme range shots but for those that are well practiced and capable, how does a long range shot make them less of a hunter? Is the magic range 100 yards? 50? 25? 10? I think putting hunters down that ethically take game at ranges they are well practiced at is a very slippery slope indeed. This whole I'm a real hunter and you're not because you do things differently does nothing to promote and protect this great heritage of ours.......

While there's an old saying that if you put enough monkeys in a room with enough typewriters that they'd eventually write War and Peace....I think if you put enough internet hunters in a room for a short period of time and allow them to define what's acceptable in hunting, you'd end up with no hunting season at all.....ugh

Yup.

I like predator quest, I think Les Johnson has a hell of a lot more personality than a lot of the other folks on wild tv. He also has some good tips and tricks for calling yotes. I never knew scent was that important when calling but now I always spray down with a scent eliminator and have had way better luck ever since.

I would get a lot more done around here if it wasn't for wild tv, at least in the winter months.

I enjoy watching Les, but the show can get repetitive... now I could watch Hank Parker all day when he is doing the hunting shows ... not so crazy about his boys, but they are ok.

Predator Quest IMO is one of the less annoying hunting programs on Wild. Les Johnson hunts a lot in the American Midwest but have seen a couple episodes of Alberta coyote hunts. Some of the video footage is real good stuff as I have a tough time getting the buggers close in for a shot without some camera man over my shoulder. Les claimed electronic callers were illegal in AB... any truth to this? The background music sucks though... my wife calls it "hunting #### music".

Admitedly, Wild TV isn't the "Outdoor Channel" but it does have some good shows on there. After TNN folded we had zero hunting shows available to us in my neck of the woods with the exception of Canada in the Rough and Newfoundland Sportsman. I still consider myself a newbie to Coyote hunting, so I do enjoy Predator Quest and have picked up some useful info from his sets. I'm grateful that Starchoice subscribers like myself finally had the opportunity to avail ourselves of Wild TV. I probably watch it and the Military Channel 80% of the time, with the History Channel and Space making up the rest! :)

There are decent shows on it. Wild TV also carries Guns & Ammo TV, G&A Personal Defense, Shooting USA & Shooting USA Tips (I forget the exact name) along with Bow Hunter Television with Dwight Shuh (I think?). Petersen's Hunting is also decent, along with Jim Shockey's program. The two Cabela's programs are also usually pretty good. I've also taken a liking to that deep sea fishing show that I forget the name of hosted by another good 'ol boy with an accent thick enough to cut with a knife.

I don't care for Dream Season...hunting isn't a competitive sport. I also hate Best of the West/Shooting Beyond Belief.

I'm sorry, I don't consider shooting a Grizzly at 800 yards "hunting." I know that I'll probably get slammed and we've had some dust-ups in the past on this issue, but I have an ethical problem shooting at any animal at that range, especially dangerous game.

Obviously these guys can shoot, however, I have to wonder how many wounded animals get left on the editing room floor? Also, I think it sends the wrong messages to young/new/impressionable hunters. Technology and long range shooting should not be considered acceptable replacements for field craft and stalking skills. I'm sure the guys who take the time and effort to develop those skills can and do take animals cleanly, but what I am concerned about is the average guy who sticks up a paper plate at 50 yards, shoots an 8" 3 round group with his .30-06 and then thinks he's good to go shooting at a monster buck at 500 yards.

We must be related, as i was going to write
my two cents worth, but you said it almost word for word.
My Dad traveled around maybe he met your Mom at some point:rolleyes:

He has a good show, but just too commercialized.
Takes the whole 30 minutes show to do 2 stands.
But i would do the same if i was payed to do what he does.
His DVD "Quest for Coyotes" is fantasic,
(highly recomended)
no pluging of products.
He has one of the best personality in my opinion
than many of the other Wild shows.
