wildboarsaskatchewan.ca BETA is Online

the sight looks good.
will be nice to see some points plotted
I recall a fella taking out a corner on his HC sprayer in a burrow pit many years ago...NE of PA...

Yea I can't wait, I've posted it to multiple hunting sites. I've gotten some good feedback but no emails yet on points to be plotted.

If anyone can get me a recent sighting/kill/track and a location you will be the first point!

Update!

I have a more streamlined method to plot a point. Its not perfect yet but its much easier then it was before.

I did this quickly last night to save from the headache of trying to find the location in google maps then having to send me the lat/long. I'm able to do it within my webpage now.

Next step will be the fully automated point plot I hope.

Also as a side note. This site was made for and designed for Saskatchewan. Although theoretically I can mark a point anywhere in the world. If you have a point that isn't in Saskatchewan feel free to plot it and I will post it. It just may not be as noticeable to others though due to the zoom in on Saskatchewan.

So... not sure how it happened. I posted the website in a couple of the news articles that came out yesterday...

Someone from one of the news places wanted to ask me a few questions about the website to put into their next news article.

Website has had another major update. Points are plotted automatically after they are approved. Its about as easy as I can make it :) feel free to check it out.

This is a website I've been working on. Its purpose is to help keep track of wild boars around Saskatchewan. Although it could be used to track boars anywhere. Its still in BETA but I figured it was working well enough to let the BETA go live. There are currently no points on the map as its literally just going live.

If you have any pointers or ideas please let me know.

If you hunt wild boar or want to hunt wild boar this website is for you. I'd love to hear from you and get your opinion on it.

Great idea. For reasons mentioned above it may take a while to catch on, but there was a need for this. I'm sure some of the RMs would be interested in supporting this. It is going to be a problem that will continue to grow and it appears that you are the first to take the initiative. Good on you.

Thanks :)

Cool Idea.

I saw a huge one in the South Okanagan about 15 years ago and wouldn't you know it, it was one of the only times we didn't even have a .22 along. We thought of a few different bad ideas and then let it be so we didn't have to go to the ER, because it probably wouldn't have turned out as planned Lord of the Flies style.

That's probably a good choice. They are known to fight instead of flee when injured.

Just an update. There was an issue over the weekend with the site that didn't take in points correctly. A couple people had tried to mark points and unfortunately due to a small programming screw up didn't actually save them.

Also there is now a mobile webpage that is up. It requires geo location be turned on in your phone and web browser. What it does is it takes the current time and your current location as well as an option of yours ( kill, spotted, track) and marks a point right where you are. Makes it nice and easy to mark a point on your smartphone for those on here who use them

Just trying to make things as easy as possible.

Google Maps incorrectly indentifies Salinity Lake, (near the small town of Waka and the nearby larger lake also named as such) which according to locals, and signage, as Shannon Lake. Had to point that one out, as it is used as a referance point for one of the sightings.
