Has anyone here had any experiences with or know anything about the wildcat 22-6mm?

I'm not refering to the AI version just the 6mm case necked down to .224...

edit to add:

Or other wildcats along this line...

I'm looking for a flat shooting .224 cartridge that can shoot 70 - 80gr high BC bullets that will cut wind drift down from my 22-250 with 55gr bullets but has the same 3600 - 3700fps velocities.

I don't want higher velocities just better BC's for long range predator hunting I also want as flat of trajectory as I can get.

Many moons ago a friend in Saskatoon had a wildcat called a 224 Clark which I believe was made from a 7x57 case.....very similar to the 6mm Rem.
At one time Hornady made a heavy 80 or 85 gr bullet for it because it was quite popular Stateside.
His rifle was crazy accurate at long distance and I know it had a tighter twist I believe 8" or 9".
Perhaps you could find more on it by using google.
At that time I was shooting a 219 Zipper Imp and his 224 Clark would beat it up at long distance...

The 6mm Rem is just a 7x57 necked down. So if you neck a 6mm dowb to .224, you will get a 5.6x57, which is a factory offering with ammo available from RWS and others. The RWS factory load is a 74gr T-Mantel, K-spitz or Volmantel bullet @ 3400fps.

Edit: You could also try a fast twist barrel and a .22x64, which is the '06 case necked down:

Try that with a Hornady 75gr A-Max or Match. They have a BC of .435, which is pretty good. The .22x64 should be able to hit around 3600 fps with those bullets, or the 3400fps with the 5.6x57.

Anyone have any throat erosion figures to throw around?

From the link:
The only unknown that now remains is how long the barrel will last. The rifle is fitted with a chromemoly barrel from Truvelo in South Africa. As a 220 Swift, it has seen in excess of 2500 shots at 4400 fps. Rechambered to 22x64, it has now fired a further 400 plus shots. As the day it was built, it will still shoot under an inch at 100 and, with careful loading, at a half inch.

I think if you really keep your barrel very clean, and not over-heat it with rapid fire strings, it should be just fine.

Regarding the 224 Clark, I do know my buddy had over 2000 rds. through it when we were coyote hunting together and it still grouped very well.
My Zipper is still a tack-driver and I have no idea how many rounds it has seen....wouldn't want to hazard a guess, and it still wears a Hervey Lovell barrel. In actual fact I could only assume that most 22 cal hotrods would have a shorter barrel life.
Years ago I wore out a 223 barrel and I think the round count was just over 7000....I did keep track, just can't remember where I put the numbers.....thats the downside to growing old !!

I have built 3 or 4 22-250 Acklys. Case capacity would be a bit less than what you propose, I think. I shot the Sierra 80 (moly) at 3400 fps. It was very accurate and handles the wind well.

Around the 1000 round mark the occassional bullet would blow up and by 1200 they all would. It took 3 barrels for me to accept that was the barrrel life.

If you order barrel with a starisght section on the shank, you will be able to set barrel back and re-chamber to extend life.

I've got a 22/243 Middlested. The 1-14" fireforming barrel is great for converting crows into a black ball of feathers 3 feet across. 52 grain at 4300 fps. I've got a 1-8" Lilja fitted for it, but the firefoming barrel shoots so well that I don't have the heart to switch back.
I used a fast twist 22/250 to shoot 75 Hornady BTHP Match bullets for long-range coyotes until I shot the barrel out. Those things laugh at wind, which was the rational behind the now stalled Middlested fast twist project.

if wind drift is a concern, look at a 6.5mm like a 260, 6.5x55, 6.5-284, 6.5-06, etc

a heavy 22 cal will not be fur friendly, so might as well go to the king caliber of BC

it probably wont, but what I meant was - a heavy 22 cal pushed fast will NOT be fur friendly, so if wind drift is a concern - go with a 6.5mm with a BC of .500+ and blow big holes in fur that way

in todays age of laser range finders and elevation turrets, flat shooting isnt that big of a factor

my .02

I haven't checked trajectories but I'm figuring the high velocity/BC 22's would have an extremely flat trajectory compared to any of the 6.5's...

I'm looking at these 224's right now for the flat trajectory and minute amount of wind drift.
