wildcats from 30 06

hello.this is my first thread on cgn.just wondering what cartridges and wildcats were made from the 30 06 as i am thinking of getting a custom system with interchangable barrels.got the idea from the sako guad.

There are many.
The best of the .30-06 based wildcats have been standardized as factory cartridges for years. There are numerous .30-06 derived factory cartridges, in bore sizes from .25 up. .25-06, .270, 280, .35. If you want non-standardized versions, you can choose from 6.5mm, 8mm, .338, .375, .40. There have been .22s and 6mms made, but with the full length case, they are really badly overbore.
If you don't want to stay with the 63mm case, and standard body taper, the field is wide open, with hundreds of options.

308 no replaced the 30-06 and is a shorter round
25-06 yes but not a wildcat
22-250 no based on a 250 savage I think

I have heard of 6mm and 6.5mm wildcats based on the '06 though. Theres probably a 7mm version out there too but I can't be sure.
Theres also Imp versions of the 6,6.5,and 338-06 as well.

Isn't it considered as derived from the '06 if it's the same case up to where the neck is? (the same bolt would feed the .308 and '06?) That's why I mentioned .308.
Yeah, wasn't sure about the 22-250. thanks.:)
 
As mentioned before, the best ones have already been made into factory rounds:

.25-06, .270, .280, .35 Whelen.

Then there are the non-standardized ones, with calibres ranging from .22 to .40, as well as every one of them being "Ackley improved." There is a whole series of similar improved cartridges called the Gibbs line, which is the same as the Ackley improved line, but with extremely short necks to maximize case volume.

Personally I've been toying with the idea of a .25 Gibbs for long-range deer and coyotes. Ballistics are fairly close to .257 Weatherby with less powder and more in the magazine. Awesome stuff! Good luck with your future project!

You need to get a copy of Po Ackley's Handbook for shooters and reloaders 1 and 2.
I'ts full of great wildcat info ,but you will need salt to go with some of the data.

I suppose you're right but I always see them as seperate due to the different action lengths required. (or the different action lengths generally used)
