Wildcatting a Model 70 currently in .308

I don't think it's a good idea to rechamber 308Win barrel into 30-284 IMHO. 284 Win case has rebated rim (rim dia smaller .030" than body of case) and that might be not friendly feature for smooth feeding in a hunting rifle. For single shot rifles that is no problem what so ever. Also 308Win chamber neck dia is .344" and necked up 284Win brass to 30cal might have only .010" wall left. If said total .014" clearance in the neck area of chamber is OK then it can be done but accuracy will suffer. For proper job, the barrel needs to be set back 1/8" or two threads or so. Total lenght of a loaded 30-284 cartridge is limited to 2.800" in short action so heavy bullets will rob the case of internal capacity so expected speed gain isn't going to be as high as hopped for....
