Wilderness ATC BC

Not sure if this is the right forum but wondering if anyone has had any recent experience with applying for a Wilderness ATC in BC.

I'm a part time prospector in BC (Free Miners Cert) and have a few placer and mineral claims scattered through Central and southern BC/exploring all over.

Also I read a few other forms that stated Wilderness Carry course is no longer a requirement for applications any word on that ?

Wondering if other prospectors/miners have successfully gotten a Wilderness ATC and what kind of geographic restrictions the CFO is putting on them?

i think and as we have the same guy in charge for the yukon and bc that you need that have an income for that activities. some guides gave up the atc here as it was too complicated and easier to just have a rifle.

best is to check with the guy delivering them.
 
Thanks for the info, Yah I think its the same guy will put a call in on Monday. I do make an income defiantly not nearly enough to quit my day job though lol. Usually do just pack a rifle but crawling around mountain sides cracking open rocks and digging my Glock 20 sounds much more appealing of an option.
 
most folks here in BC that want to carry just join a criminal organization.
This ensures that they will just get a slap on the wrist by the woke justice system.

I dunno..... In these times who asks for permission?

I got laughed at for wanting to carry in Labrador, I told the CFO that I would feel safer because at my cabin every year there 3 BIGGGGGG black bears and I cannot always carry my 12 gauge or rifle, and I sold them now, moved, couldn't take them

You're going to have to call them directly. The grounds for what they'll approve as a job are pretty thin, or used to be. Even as a professional geologist I was told no but that was awhile ago.

And 10mm didn't qualify last time I asked in Alberta, they'd moved the goal post up to 44magnum, or so I was told. That's when I gave up after a year or so.

In Manitoba your primary occupation has to be in a remote wilderness area with dangerous wild animals. No course required just a bunch of questions requiring written answers and actual shooting to prove proficiency. Minimum caliber for ATC is .357 magnum.
 
your main source of income is the key here in BC.
If you are wanting a wilderness atc here , the wilderness setting employment "must" be your primary source of employment.
I do know of a younger fella who does 100% of his employment in the BC back country. His employer offered to help him get his wilderness carry but this young man is confident enough with his shotgun. He doesn't want the problems or government intrusion that the rpal requires.
He has firearms insurance though and that along with proof of PAL were required by his employer although it was his employer that brought up the options and offered to assist in any way required by the CFO.
 
I’m in Bc. My atc just expired and I’m in the middle of applying again for another two years. I’m in forestry and work all over the province. A level one pistol course goes a long way in getting your permit. It’s not mandatory but goes a long way because it shows some training and safety knowledge.
