Help me answer these questions from the Wilderness Carry questionnaire.

CARRY: Decribe how you propose to ensure the safety and retention of your firearm while it is being actively used in your profession or legal occupation.

Obviously a holster must be used, but is there a specific type necessary? Anything else to add?

RESPONSIBILITY: Decribe in detail your obligation when approached by an identified Peace Officer (Police, C.O.)

Well for starters, leave the firearm holstered. And produce all required documentation when asked. Any thing else to add?

From section "F" on the ATC application:
List all the restricted firearms and prohibited handguns that you will be carrying.

For this I planned on writing " All restricted and prohibited firearms registered to the applicant". Reason being, if - more like when - I buy more handguns I have the choice to use these as well without having to go through an ATC update. Would this be OK, or is the CFO looking for specifics?

See post # 2 and make sure you are filling out the most current version of the application. When the RCMP took an active role in CFC last year all forms were updated and the old ones are not used anymore. If you do fill out an old one it will result in big delays.

Interesting. I've gotta get on that stuff myself. This may be a moot point but aren't there caliber restrictions for ATC? I thought it had to be an appropriate caliber for defense...

Holster - The holster will retain the firearm by means of a retaining strap,, thumb-snap, flap etc.

I didn't have to answer the LEO question, but I'd say you are on the right track. Perhaps the correct answer would be to immediately inform them that you are an lawful ATC holder and that you have your authorization with you, then follow their directions.

You will have to individually list each gun you want included on the permit by the certificate number. They won't automatically put a new gun on the permit unless you specifically ask them to at the time of purchase or at some later date. When you purchase a new/new for you gun, it is useful to tell them the reason for purchase is for ATC purposes, as well as for target shooting or collecting.

I called for and received the forms last week. They came from CFO Orillia. The cover letter is from the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services. Signed by Chris Wyatt, Superintendent CFO. It explains that I must complete:

~ CAFC 680 EW - ATC Application
~ CFO 003 Mandatory Questionnaire
~ 2 page Bear Baiter Questionnaire

I am also required to supply the following supporting documentation:

~ a copy of my current Bear Management Area
~ a map indicating the area
~ a copy of my Ontario Wilderness Handgun Safety Course
~ proof of income from legal profession or occupation
~ and the appropriate fee

The only form with the RCMP logo is the ATC Application. I hope I've got the up to date stuff.....

Calibre restrictions, I dunno? 9mm / .38Spec / .357MAG / .40S&W have been used for years by LEO agencies for defense against two legged beasties. I plan on listing all of mine - pistols and revolvers ranging from 9mm to .44MAG We'll see what happens...

Caboose , did you take the wilderness course because most of those questions are covered in the course ?
