Sharing some pics of my Wilhelm Collath, Frankfurt AO Germany. Drilling 20gax20gax7x57R. Made in the early 1900's.

Horn trigger guard and opening lever, wing type safety.

The rifle rear sight is hidden in the rib, pushing the rifle selector forward pops up the rear sight and the rear trigger fires the rifle.

Welcome to the Black Forest. Beautiful piece. I'd like to know the original history of that one. The panel showing the deer with the holes in 'er looks rather like someone's score on a running deer qualifying target for hunting permit. Maybe a friend of the 1st. owner ordered that drilling for him as a friendly razz.

Beautiful piece... I would definitely walk the woods with it on crisp, clear autumn day... imagine the satisfaction of downing game with a rifle designed to do so over a hundred years ago.

I was also wondering about what looks like bullet holes on the deer.

The two big holes in the deer compared to the others suggest to me that they were slug hits on the bugger. I shot a lot of running deer shoots back in the day and it was not hard to get decently tight groupings when I was on me game. Many of the targets at these shoots would show the same horizontal pattern of shot placement.

Beauty drilling.;)
