any reason a 270win stamped Abolt mag wont work for the 3006?
found one in Sydney aus for $150 but its for the 270 , i cant see why it wont work but maybe you know more ?

I would be very surprised if it wouldn’t work! Many factory rifles use the same mags for these cartridges. You could probably google and find out for sure.

Just did a search and a few different theories popped up. One was for legal issues they’ve been made calibre specific. Another was the angle of the case requires the follower to be different for proper feeding. In my opinion the parent case is exactly the same so I’d be inclined to believe you’ll have no problem. Good luck

I found similar with Remington 788 magazines - I have one marked "308 Win" and one marked "243 Win" - I use them interchangeably in either 308 Win Rifle or 243 Win Rifle - they fit and work - I can not find a difference - except the ID stamping on them.

I suspect they would work fine for 260 Rem, 7 mm-08, 358 Win or about anything else based on the 308 Win case, although I do not own any of those in Rem 788.

Browning is strange.
They stamp calibers on magazines.
I'm using 308 in a 243 "A BOLT" magazine with no issues.
The horror! The horror!

Seriously though, I'm with the crowd that thinks it doesn't make a difference and will work just fine.

I have an old Springfield Armory catalog from the 80's somewhere around here. It listed their M1A rifles as being available in .243 Win, 7mm-08 Rem, and .308 Win. They only sold one type of magazine for those rifles.

With a casual glance, it's pretty hard to see a difference between a .270 Win and a .30-06 Springfield......unless you know what you're looking for.

I believe it should work. Browning makes the WSM XBolt magazine the same for the simple reason of tooling and manufacturing costs. They stamp the mags to allow for your safety. They do however sell spares that are only identified as WSM. I own a 270wsm as well as a 6.8 western. Both xbolts. In theory I can load a 6.8 into the 270 with a handloaded round and a deep seated lighter shorter bullet. A 6.8 would however load into the lands and could in theory be fired. The 270 WSM could be loaded into all of the other larger caliber WSM chambers. The same could be said for many cartridge types that are designed from a parent type. I think they mark them to reduce the risk of somebody making a potentially life altering mistake. Cheers
