As the title says: Will a Model 7 barrel fit in a Model 700 action?

I have a 1970s Remington ADL 243 that Just won't shoot for me any more. I may have over-cleaned it, damaged the crown, I don't know, but when it was new in 1976, out of the box with iron sights it was a tack driver. I once shot a blacktail right in the middle of the nose with it offhand. Doesn't shoot like that any more.

Someone local is selling a new Model 7 7mm-08 barrel so I was wondering if it was a simple matter of unscrewing the old one and putting the new one on.

Yes, it will screw right on.
You will need the tools to remove the existing barrel, and torque the replacement into place with the recoil lug properly oriented.
BUT, it is unlikely that sights (if there are any on the Model 7 barrel) or lettering will be indexed. The headspace may or may not be within limits.
On a number of occasions I have got lucky, and headspace was correct. I have also had to deal with insufficient or excess headspace.
The Model 7 barrel is somewhat lighter than the 700 barrel.

Why not recrown the barrel?

Good question. I haven't ever taken it to a 'smith for an exam. I don't even need the 243 any more anyway, nor do I need another 7mm rifle seeing as I have a 280 and a 7x57 it was just a question about interchangeability to satisfy my curiosity.

Hey, Kinda related. I have a Question about a possible '700' barrel. Maybe someone here can help me out. I have a 22" Factory barrel listed in EE, I got it in a "700' parts deal. I spent an hour online trying to find a matching 22" Remington 700 Rifle or barrel same profile. tapered/non threaded barrel. I could only find the Magpul 700 comes with a 22", but seems to have a different barrel profile. Someone is asking what the Twist Rate is. Which started me on this mission. I just came across Remington 783 info. I'm guessing buddy sold me 783 parts, but said they were 700. After doing more research, threads are saying Remington 783 is based off a Savage action, & saying for the most part, barrels are interchangeable, so 783 to-> Savage. I had no idea. Has anyone heard or know this is true? The barrel doesn't say a model #{picz in my EE ad}, I may call Savage tomorrow to confirm {that it's 783 & Not 700} & may keep for my Savage build/receiver or adjust my ad. Thnx

It is my understanding that the 783 is derived from a Marlin design, from when Remington and Marlin were owned by the same company.
I have heard that the 783 and Savage breeching is very similar. Not having tried it, I do not know if a 783 barrel will screw into a Savage receiver.
The most obvious way of identifying a 700 or 783 barrel is that the 700 barrel has a shoulder, while the 783 uses a nut. The thread pitch is not the same. The 700 breech face is recessed for the bolt nose, the 783 barrel is flat faced.

Hey Thnx. ^ Well, after looking through many pictures. I believe it's from a Model 788. There are threads, then a bit of a space, then another set of threads. So, that kinda sucks, when I purchased the lot of parts', I was told everything was from a 700. It looks pretty new, so, never thought it was from an older rifle.

Here's a couple picz: if it is from a 788' it's weird, bcuz this barrel looks newly manufactured. But, the threads don't look like a 700 or a 783. The last 788's were 1983? It has the 'REP' & I think a date code of DH 14..Stamped on the barrel. Could it be a newly made factory replacement?

I just found 2 ads at gun shops, one looks exactly like mine, & it says Take off from 783. It's that little GAP between the threads that's weird. Seems some have it, some don't. Another ad selling Factory take off 783 barrels, looks identical, but no gap. .. mehh~ I'm going with 783 lol & the ad also say will fit Savage Short Action..so may keep for my savage build.. Thnx guys for your replies. Cheerz ~

That is a 788 barrel.

Lots of brand new 788's had their barrels pulled and the stock thrown away so the action could be used to build a target rifle. Your barrel could be one of these 'pull offs'.

^ Yes blargon. it's that exact barrel you linked, a 783 Take off. I think the 788 were from the 80's at newest. All the barrels Ive seen are stamped the NY factory info. This one Stamped is from the KY factory. Also, as I mentioned. I found 2 gun stores selling 22" 783 take off barrels, & they are exactly as the one I have, exact same as the above link. Usually it's easy to find the info. this was more challenging. The 783 barrel def. looks more similar to a 788 then a 700 does. Also, several forums, as well as the gun shop is listing the 783 {barrel} will work on a Savage short action.
