Will antiques be affected by the import ban?

2. As per the Government of Canada’s Aug 5th, 2022 announcement, under the authority of the Export and Import Permits Act, there will be an introduction of new, temporary import control measures related to restricted handguns. Accordingly, the import of handguns into Canada will require an individual import permit issued by GAC.

Since it refers specifically to restricted handguns, does that mean antiqus are exempt?

I see a french 1892 and a sw new model 3 on Simpson ltd at decent prices right now, I'm considering if it's worth buying on this side of the border to try to ship back to my place in canada before C-21 gets passed.
 
Importation of antiques are currently not impacted by import ban according to GACs web page and an import permit is not required. Suspect an RCMP antique letter would be helpful. I’ll share my experience this Sunday
 
I landed in Montreal, had my restricted certs, antique letters, export and import permits and ATT and ready. CBSA was great, no issues what so ever. They validated the serial numbers and signed off on the export permit that I returned my firearms.

Painless and super professional experience.

Were you importing them from the states, or were these guns you had brought to the states temporarily from Canada?
And did you have an antique letter for all of them from the RCMP?
 
I was coming back from Germany. All my antiques had an RCMP letters.

Ill openly admit, I need to understand the antique letter process better. From what I understand the RCMP rely heavily on proof marks, which works well for some firearms, but not others.
 
For what it’s worth, I reached out to Prophet River to get their take on things, and although we should be technically able to still import antique hand guns, they were weary and suggested it’s not a good idea at this time. Hoping this gets clarified further at a practical level in the near future.
