Does anyone think we may ever see AR's become a non-restricted rifle? Most of us would agree that there is no need for it to be restricted in the first place. I was just looking at the non-restricted TAVOR and got to thinking; if the TAVOR is non restricted, then why the heck not the AR 15??

it will never be non restricted. it was originally supposed to be phrohib. count your lucky stars that we can even shoot one now on a range.

Write a letter to your MP or join a fireaerm organization or two, strating another thread on a topic that has been talked about since the classification will not do much to help getting AR off thar list ;)

Call or write your MP. Complaining on Gunnutz will not take this issue very far. There are lots of ideas in the Action Centre for how to talk to politicians and get your message across.

Relaxing the ATT rules, or completely turfing them is a much more realistic goal. Allow restricteds to be used anywhere a firearm can normally be used...

That would completely eliminate the purpose behind having classifications in the first place. I think reclassifying the AR is much more likely overall than allowing handgun use anywhere firearms are legal.

OP, do I think it is possible? Yes. Do I think it is probable? Nope.

The CPC are clearly demonstrating that they have no f**king clue about what is wrong with our gun laws and adding in a big helping of not giving a s**t about personal rights or freedoms on top of that. And this from the GOOD party in federal politics. Unless we see a large change in attitude with the CPC, the LGR elimination will be the one change we get for the foreseeable future.

Not really. We can always go with the "handguns and restricted rifles are registered, so that's the difference". A big step towards this, IMO, would be to push for ATT reform that allows for handgun hunting.

Fill the House and Senate with CGNers then change everything you want. Until that happens join CSSA, NFA and write to the MP's. I write a couple of paragraphs to the MP's once a month.

Did the natives at OKA use tavors?

No, they did not, nor apperently did they use the mini14 even though whats his face did. But what his face didn't threaten the government of Canada either ;)

If you ask me, there shouldnt be a single rifle or shotgun in the restricted class. With the exception of guns short enough to fit in the handgun class, there is no logical reason for it. I can understand trying to control the number of handguns carried by criminals but the rest of it is blatant disrespect towards the law abiding gun owners, who happen to make up the majority of gun owners. Lets get the LGR six feet under and once again collectively establish and fight for a common goal.

We're on a roll here!

Of course it will if you join the NFA, the CSSA and take the time to go see your MP and have a civilized 10 chat with him!
We just started winning our fight for a decent treatment of Canadian gun owners and I don't see why the trend should change for the foreseable futur.

You never quit just when you start winning after 20 years of defeat.

It'll take time but being optimistic, yeah they'll be non restricted again, especially if conservatives win another term after this one. It'll take pressure from us to change this.

I agree. With the LGR gone soon, the conservatives will have to continually listen to our demands if they want to keep our votes. I just hope they are aware our numbers are increasing everyday and we will begin to have more influence in Canada. If we continually demand changes, eventually they will listen.

I don't think the Canadian public is ready for un-restricting "bad scary guns".
It seems to me changing the RULES for restricted guns would be much more effective.
So even if we were to get rid of ATTs and allow restricted guns to be discharged anywhere a non-restricted could, you could still argue"they're still restricted".

There is nothing scary about the AR at all. What we have to get across is that Eugene Stoner was genius who designed the ultimate sporting rifle. We have to drive home how many Canadian companies there are devoted to manufacturing and supplies parts for these rifles.

Could you imagine how much work there would be if you were allowed to hunt with the AR? Overnight, I think, it would be the most popular hunting/sporting rifle. If you could take it out and hunt with it, you'd see a number of people take the time to get their restricted licences. If it went non-restricted I bet there would be a shortage for a while.
