Will CCI .22LR shotshells kill a 6" long rat at 10-30'?

It's more of a pest control question but will CCI .22LR shotshells kill a 6" long rat at 10-30'?

Can't comment on BC rats but I can on Saskatchewan rats. We tried using what was then called 22 birdshot when I was a kid to kill rats at the farm or at the elevators so as not to put holes in the buildings. You best make sure you kill them with first shot and not have them cornered as they will come at you. I only tried using birdshot once and never did again after that experience.
Was awhile before I used anything less than a 12 gauge.

I have taken a few Grouse with them but you need to be close 10' max. As for rats they are survivors so if close yes but from a far i would say not a chance. Just my opinion.

My only thought if you are thinking of doing this in the Lower Mainland, is that the 22 shot shells will be less effective than the 6 RCMP with C8's will be at shooting a Geologist.

No no, not a C8 it's a patrol carbine now!

My experience with the .22 shotshells is similar to the others, pretty useless and still make an attention catching bang. The .22 wmr shotshells are better but still not for over 15 feet. Rats take a lot of damage before calling it a day.

same experience here... I tried those things on meadow mice and sparrows in an old barn. Not effective beyond about 12 feet. No way they would work on rats. Tried the crimp-end Winchesters and the bubble cap CCI.

May be better out of a smoothbore, but I don't have one.

No bag limit, but the season is short, and windy wet days limit your opportunities.

Boomer, thanks for the intell...

geo, get some rat attack and set it out for them.
They will eat it like candy and then they will search out an open spot to wriggle around in their death throes.
You'll be able to clean them up dq after that.
Just some recent experience of rats dining in the composting compactors and the Rat Patrol cleaning them up so as not to offend the public.
