Will machine shops build self-designed brass?

How many of these projects have been completed? Just curious...

Anyhow, why would you want to go with a scaled up .220 Swift? It's an archaic cartridge design, and there's much better geometry to be had if you're going from scratch. You'll get higher velocities from a shorter, fatter case of even slightly less volume than your scaled up Swift. All the .220 Swift is, is an overbore cartridge. The .50BMG is already overbore as it is, going down to .408, let alone lengthening it and blowing out the body at all, is just plain useless in my opinion... That is unless you like buying powder by the 10lb jug and very expensive barrels several times a year.

How many guns do you own Dave? How much wildcatting have you done? I like others admire your enthusiasm, but I sincerely doubt this is going anywhere, just like the other proposed projects. Sorry to be a downer...

Dave has stated very recently that has owns no firearms. Maybe this has changed

Nothing against you at all Dave, nice to see so much interest. But maybe it is time to spend some time in the saddle before trying to rebuild the horse.

that's a great line. Not just for Dave, but for anyone with an overabundance of enthusiasm;)

I have suggested to Dave that he do a bit of reloading for standard cartridges before tackling these hyper-velocity things.

Don't let these guys discourage you. It's all about how much money you are willing to invest into your project. You should go with the 50 bmg case just because it's available and will ultimately save you tons of money. Forget about the .408 calibre. Go with a .375 or .416 calibre because, again, it's available. I'm assuming that you are going to build a 1000+ yard rifle. you will want to build it heavy with a 30"+ long barrel, muzzle break, adjustable stock, nightforce long range scope, and custom bipod. Yes, it will cost more than a off the shelf .50 BMG bolt gun by the time you are done, but if you don't have a wife to answer to, then what the hell, chase your dream. I don't know if you really should be shooting for 4000fps. I'm not saying that it's impossible, however, by the time you discover your perfect load, you will be replacing your burnt out barrel. It's only money. There are many reamer and die manufacturers in the states just waiting for a phone call from you. And,yes, they do ship to Canada.
