I have a nice late 70's 1100 with a 30" fixed full choke ribbed 2 3/4" chambered barrel.Except for some minor cosmetic issues the barrel is in great shape.(I understand 1100 barrels of this vintage are highly regarded). To add some versatility I was wanting to get a shorter barrel with screw in choke tubes. Will the newer 2 3/4" chambered barrels properly fit the old receivers?

Yes 99% of the time. If you buy a light contour barrel you will have a little open space around the barrel and the fore stock. The barrel with screw in chokes will likely be as heavy or heavier than your 30 incher. Do not be sold the story that an 1187 barrel will work. It is not the proper barrel for the 1100. Remington also makes a 1100 "Steel Shot" barrel that will allow you to shoot 3 " steel shot loads when installed on your standard receiver. NO 3" lead loads though. They generate too much gas for a standard receiver set up.
