will refinishing the stock on my RC k98 lower the value?

Good points all but the Russians should have ground Soviet markings off their own surplus guns because Stalin murdered around 30 million people in the U.S.S.R. in the years leading up to WW2.
 
The RC's I have seen look bloody horrible with that ugly, sloppily applied Shellac on them. If I had one, the first thing I would do is strip her down completely and refinish it. When I see some of the laminated ones covered in that crap, it makes me want to cry....

You can also remove the Russian blue( black ) with cider vinager I'm told.
