I found this used Remington 1100, in .410 caliber. On the receiver it says "for .410 3 inch plastic shotshells only. If I were to buy it, it would be strictly for use as a skeet gun. By rule, .410 skeet loads are limited to ½ oz. of shot and 1200 fps and they come in 2½ inch shells. That is a lot less than the 11/16 oz. of a 3 inch shotshell.

While I am sure that the gun will safely shoot the shorter shells, I wonder whether the action will cycle properly with the lighter load. The seller does not know, and he is several hours away from my home. Can someone enlighten me?

Well, I do not own one, but have shot one at grouse at my buddies cabin.
The 2-1/2 shells did not eject fully from the chamber but rather just hung outside the ejection port.
This maybe due to the use of some old paper hulled canuks iirc...
Why not go to the local range and see what the .410 guys/gals are shooting there .
My 20gauge gold didnt go 40 rounds at the Sporting Clays feild without hick- ups using 2-1/2 trap loads... Just passing on my experiences.
I like the Remington 870 Wingmasters myself and would consider one of those over the 1100 but again that is just my opinion and yours may vary ....
I gotta try that Skeet Shooting one day too.

If the guy really wants to sell it, why not have him go get a box of shells & try it. If it works, tell him you'll take the remainder of the box along with the gun. If not, he keeps both! That way you know for sure!

Opening up the gas port

It will not cycle 2 1/2'' the gas port is smaller on the 3'' you could open it up to bleed off more gas and it would be fine

I had thought of that. On the other hand, I could also find a skeet barrel with 2½ inch chamber. Would any 1100 barrel fit that model (1100 LW), or are Remingron's barrels model specific, like Browning's are?
