Will the AR ever be Non-Restricted, again?

Another option is getting the ATT altered so they are a general authorization to transport,

All they need to do is change the wording on the ATT from "to an approved range" to "anywhere legal to discharge firearms" or similar.
This of course opens a whole can of worms re: carry vs transport. Both concepts are ridiculous and unecessary.

I just read this whole thread. The AR's will probably not become non-restricted because of one thing. Us. What a bunch of defeatist f**ks we all are. Of course they want to take our black guns! All that means is go buy more! Don't give up, fight back for f**ks sake.

Holy s**t.

Ive been wondering the same lately. Is this a realistic concern? Im looking to buy my first black rifle and I think ive decided that an AR seems like a better deal than most non-restricted black rifles, but especially with what is happening to our T97 friends, im almost wondering if I should just spend more and get a non-res. but in some cases its almost twice as much as a decent AR, but I doubt your getting twice the gun.

There is a better chance of the non-restricted AR type guns being added to the restricted list than the restricted guns becoming non-restricted. If the Liberals are elected I could see them making the AR a Prohibited weapon, making our expensive rifles useful only as paperweights.
In the States there was a rush to buy AR's because they feel Obama will ban them. If they ban them in the States, Canada will follow suit. The difference is the Americans will be able to shoot the guns that are already owned, Canadians are SOL with a gun that can't be shot.

We should continue to buy non restricted black rifles untill such point there are as many or more of them than there are ARs. Then we ask the right MPs to start asking why ARs continue to be restricted while thousands of similar looking and similar functioning rifles are not. That to me makes the most sense.

They'll just restrict the similar looking and similar functioning rifles :(

In my opinion no.

The law has been in place for too long, and too many people support it.

Like CdnCombatMedic said, I am more concerned with it becoming prohibited then getting it non-restricted.

Do the politicians ever listen to the people any more? I say the government should actually put out an online poll for this sort of stuff.

I want them to voice my opinion on laws not their own personal opinions that's what we pay them for no? Isn't that some sort of conflict of interest?

It's not just about the AR being non-restricted again, we have bigger battles that we have to deal with on a constant basis. Self Defence, CCW and others.

We need someone to import a large number of very cheap Chinese made receivers (Stripped, no finish etc). That way AR-15 ownership will shoot up.

I don't think so. Only the number of registered AR's will go up, not the number of actual people who own them. Mostly only people who want to "show the government up" will buy these, and those people already likely own AR's or restricted rifles of some kind or other. Few people who don't own any restricted or AR's will buy these cheap receivers just to p.o. the government. What we need is people who don't own AR's or any firearms at all to be encouraged to join the black rifle club. John at Marstar is doing that with the Norinco AR's coming in. Anyone who wanted an AR but was on the fence because of a Remington being too expensive at $1299.00 plus tax now has no more excuse.

there are too many AR out there. They cant ban them without a fight.

I'm afraid it's bigger than that,we have more pistols than AR's out there, but that hasn't stopped the Liberals from putting pistols on the agenda, the Libs want to take them away from every owner and make ownership of pistols illegal.

My fear is that eventually they will ban ALL Restricteds, and I don't think I'm alone in that feeling. We just need to keep making our voices heard.

Sure they can. Prohibit the AR15s, send out notifications 30 day notifications.

Collect the willingly surrendered ones, send the ERT after everyone else. Go in at 3:00am, mess up the house a bit, kill everyone inside, and claim a righteous shoot out. Then cite national security issues if anyone pries and send out a bunch of press releases saying how the guy had known ties to [insert your favorite terrorist name here] and that he was planning something bad.

You'd be amazed what you can get away with when you add the proper media spin.

If that ever happens im out of here "insert country name here".

Will the AR ever be Non-Restricted? Probably not.

Will the AR become Prohibited? Probably. Followed in short order by all handguns... then by all semi-automatic firearms... then by any firearm with an ammunition capacity greater than five rounds... then two rounds... and then... finally... all firearms will become prohibited in Canada.

And at that time, the few remaining gentlemen (and women) left holding their exquisite, engraved and expensive hand-made rifles and shotguns will throw their hands up in the air and wail, "But... but... but... who will speak up for me?!"

It won't be the people whose AR's were confiscated.

I don't own an AR, but I'd like to retain the ability to own one should the desire ever arise. Responsible firearms owners should support the choices of other responsible firearms owners. Making a distinction between "proper" rifles and "black" rifles only supports the arguments of those seeking to ban all firearms.
