Will the FN SCAR rifles be manufactured outside the U.S.?

FN is in the process of manufacturing a new SCAR rifle in the U.S. for the military and a semi-automatic version for U.S. civilians.

The U.S. State Department won't let semi-auto rifles with collapsible stocks to be exported to civilians in Canada or any other country.

What do you think is the likelihood that FN will also manufacture the SCAR rifles in say, Belgium, in order to be able to sell them to non-U.S. civilians of the free world?
 
It currently is being made in Belgium.

These are low production prototypes on display at SHOT 2008. I do not know if FN Belgium is interested in building for the civvy market outside of the US.
 
Maybe by barrel length, but shouldn't be by name, unless someone in government passes another Order in Council.
And that better not happen with the current government in power.
 
The barrels are "quick change", if FN doesn't want to produce 18.5" barrels, why not send them over without the barrel and have the barrels added later?

At any rate, FN doesn't seem to exhibit the guilty conscience HK does, and doesn't appear to have any problems with selling firearms to sportsman. So, I have faith in them, but not in the economics of producing a Canada specific version.
 
It depends on the Belgium army - they have been trying to sell the FN2000 for years but only small numbers had been sold to the military.( I sense political pressure to keep the production line afloat, until US civilians are buying them like crazy)

I got a hunch this will be the next Belgium military rifle since the GL and all the other stuff had been developed. The FN2000 is a flop and the manual of arms of SCAR will be more similar to the FNC.

According to Wikipedia the SCAR-H will have a long barrel version that has a 19.7 inch barrel meaning it would be non restricted. Maybe CanAm was talking about this rifle when he was saying he had something special coming from Europe this fall. I want a Black rifle to hunt with so bad I would buy one in a second. FN are know for reliability too.

Well not to totally disagree but the FN2000 was adopted by the army of Slovenia as its main rifle.

That's good news! But they must have plans to also build them in the U.S. U.S. law forbids non-sporter rifles from being imported for sale to civilians. That's why I assumed they were being built first in the U.S.

At any rate, if they are focused on selling to U.S. civilians and they are making them in Belgium, I can't imagine why they wouldn't sell to European and Canadian civilians.

Like someone else on this thread already said, I'm excited about taking a SCAR-H deer hunting, then swith to a custom .260 Rem bull barrel and go target shooting.

You know, that's a good point. Beretta manufactures handguns on both sides of the ocean and both get sold here in Canada. Maybe FN will work the same way. :dancingbanana:
 
FNH designed and built the first few, eventually FN-USA will take over production for the US forces, as well as the US civvy market.
You are correct that US import law stops any "evil black guns" being imported for civilians, even Dlask made AR15 cannot be sold to civvies. Pure protectionism, IMHO.

I would guess that the SCARs made by FNH are only full auto for test by various militaries. I don't know if there are any plans for FNH to make a civvy semi.

6500 is a drop in the bucket - probably bundled with some MAG58 and minimi to make it a deal at some ridiculous price for marketing puprose.

They also start equiping the Belgian army(combat troops) with 2 FS2000 with GL per section. However, with only 5 infantry battlions, that really means about 400 or so weapons. Add another 80 in the SF group, in additon to a dozen here and there....there are not too much outthere. There are at least
100,000 FNC around. So they probably will be using FNC for awhile.

And they are going to make 60,000 SCAR I believe.
