Will the Sightron line of scopes drive down the prices of the competition?

First off, this new Nightforce isn't competing with Sightron, as much as you'd like to think this is the reason for the newly designed scope. It's aimed at hunters, as NF says in their ad and I'd be willing to bet its aimed at buyers of the Zeiss Conquest and Vortex lines.
I have no experience with F class or what people use, but I see what optics different hunters use on a regular basis, and Sightron isn't among them. In fact, I have yet to see a Sightron being used by a hunter, though I'm sure there are a few out there. So outside of your post and the odd person mentioning them on the US "sniper" forums, they're a non contender in the optics market, as Phil said in an earlier post.

Of course you're entitled to your opinion, it just seems that whenever someone posts a question about a scope, your opinion is that anything in Sightron's price range is of lesser quality, and the value in Sightron is even on par or superior with scopes costing twice as much.

I ask you one simple question: if they're so superior as you claim, how can they ignore such a gross oversight as forgetting the hyphen in the power range marking? To me, that's a major blunder/oversight and I find it hard to fathom that a company which is supposedly innovative and uses cutting edge tech could let this slip through? It's got Chinese sweat shop written all over it, wouldn't you agree?

How can you build a $250,000 sports car that doesn't start?

or tool up an entire factory to build what is now regarded as the most ugly vehicle every invented?

or have one of the largest and most powerful companies in the world loose billions and billions of dollars cause of a board room opinion?

if you feel lettering on a product is make or break for you, then the Sightron is an epic fail. Personally, I didn't even notice it until it was pointed out on this post.

I guess that is not one of the ways I value a scope.... my bad.

You didn't notice? That's very surprising considering your frequent handling of them. To me, it is a big deal. It would make me wonder what else was an oversight that I can't see, perhaps something more critical. It's not like a misspelled word in a novel, it's a blatantly obvious error and should be embarrassing, however small and trivial it is.

I dunno...even the $1000 range has Steiner, Zeiss, Swarovski, Leopold VX3 which are all pretty much the best you can buy for that range. $1500 all those same brands have lines, plus Leica, and Leupold you are into the Mk4 line. Pretty saturated with heavy hitters there already.

bk, you feel this is an error.... never heard anyone else feel that way.

So..... YMMV.

Yes, the market is going to get pretty silly in the next few years. There is simply too many in the same space. Who will win? Who will leave?

What will be the deciding factor/feature that moves the market one way or the other?

Scope buyers haven't had it so good for quite some time. Enjoy...

I don't see the relation this has to quality? It's a marking. It's done on purpose (it would have changed if not) and at the end of the day, serves absolutely no purpose other then some identification.

It's a mute point. Comparing it to copies of fakes is a poor comparison. If you have first hand experience with Sightron you know they aren't fakes.

Sightrons may not be used by hunters, but being a shooter myself (not a hunter), I can express my opinion that hunters are often the most ill informed shooters out there.

Might wanna edit your sig line, I believe the scope you have is a 5-20, not 5.5-20 as posted. Unless it's done on purpose of course or I'm just an ill informed hunter.............or is it shooter? ;)

Vortex Razor 5.5-20x EBR-1 - TPS rings and rail

WOAAAH!!! Lets bring up the 832x56.

Who gives a flying F'

Better? Must be a fake.

As noted before I don't shoot competively and have seldom installed a scope on a gun that the customer told me he was going to use for Bench Rest so what works or doesn't is completely out of my comfort zone so I accept that Sightron works well and is a great bang for the buck. Obviously NF is selling their Bench Rest line and the new (last year) ATACR for competition and even a few NXS's for competition but the vast majority of persons buying NF (at least from me) is for long range tactical shooting, hunting or informal target practice. I see the new SHV line being bought for exactly what their target audience is...Shooter, Hunter and Varminter. I feel that although this $1000 ish market is currently well represented (Leupold, Zeiss, Bushnell Elite, Vortex etc.) however more new product from respected manufactures can only help advance our industry because legitimate competition is always good. Phil.
