Willams FP Peep sights for hunting w/ 30-30

Marlin 336 "Steakmaker"

Excellent work blowback! You must be happy with the marlin "steakmaker?"

Yes I am very happy with this outfit. I've killed four moose with it (more than with any of my other guns) I just reach for it more often, it's always ready to rock'n roll, especially in close country or calling during the rut. I've had shots from 10 to 130 yards, and killed everything I've shot at, put them down where they stood with 170 gr factory loads. Steaks oh yeah!!

peep sights

I've used the Williams FP, the Lyman model, and older Redfield receiver peep sights. All are great and increase my ability to shoot accurately with these hunting rifles. I personally prefer the Lyman.

I have tried tang sights on some older rifles but still prefer the receiver mounted sights. I always shoot with the supplied insert installed. On one rifle I have an adjustable iris insert and it is fantastic.

Practice is still the main ingredient in making hits however.

I've ordered the williams FP fire sight kit. I might be in as early as Wednesday. I assume you can tap out the mid open site & front tang as there both dove tails.

Also bought some new hornady leverElolution 160 gr to try with the new sights.

Yup, just tap them out from the left side of the rifle to the right side for both sights. Use a hardwood dowel or brass drift to avoid marring the sights.
The new front sight may require a wee bit of filing to fit into the dovetail. Install it into the right side of the dovetail, tap it to the centre.

And watch yourself on the rear sight dovetail...they can have sharp edges.

Still looking for a plug of some kind for mine.

Setup an account at Brownells and you should be able to get their C&R pricing. That's where I got my Williams sight. FP is much nicer with 1/4 MoA clicks like a scope turret.

Thanks long walker. Thats the kind of advice I was looking for. Do you know where to buy one? I don't mind having it sent by mail. Do you recommend the Wililams FP or 5D?

Typically, I've used a brass drift to get the front sight out, however, some genius has invented a sight pusher now, that is even slicker. If the sight is peened or staked in place, or corroded, you may have some trouble moving it.
Beware, some rifles (Not usually Win '94's) use screws to hold the front sight in place.

I had one on my '94, my brother "Gilly" liked it so much I gave it to him. I bought another one a while later off the EE forum here. And I just ordered another for my Win. 88 from Brownells.
