I was on the SKS Man's site and noticed a red fiber optic sight for the SKS called the William's Fire Sight. It was only $19 and replaces the original front sight post. Does anyone have one and how do you like it? Does it work well in low light situations or is it still hard to see? I was just wondering if I should get this sight or just paint a white outline on the leading edge of the rear and front sights to make it easier to sight in on something in low light.

works great in daylight...

Lowlight isn't that great but better then the black original...

The AK-47 Tritium Front Sight would work better if you want low light, But its 60$

Will the AK-47 Titium sights work on the Russian SKS, or just the front sight, or none of the above?

I was wondering the same thing about the ak47 sights.

As far as the firesight goes, it works pretty well, highly visible. My dad has one on his norinco in conjunction with the williams peep - he likes it, I find the peep to be too far forward for my taste though. YMMV.

The williams peep sight is junk... Dosent fit well at all... Mine is in the garbage... lol

Just the AK front post will fit...

That front sight fits rigidly in the slot in the middle of the base and its held in place by a bolt through from both sides of the round. The problem that is you lose the ability to adjust the "windage" because it can't be pushed from side to side to sight in the rifle. That sight works best with the Williams rear aperture sight which has windage adjustment.

The ak front post sight is not ment for the SkS and yes the red fiber optic front post sight is worth every penny in my mind.

I've had the rear Williams firesight on two sks's and just recently acquired the front fiber optic for one of them. The rear sight did not sit tightly on both of the rifles. I had to shim both of them slightly to keep it from moving side to side. The front fiber optic sight did not sit tight on mine and when tightened with the screw, it was slightly off to one side. I would of had to shim it as well to center it but was too lazy so I left it as is. It wasnt enough to throw the gun off but does kind of look weird when you look at the off center front post. It also sat too low so at the lowest setting on the elevation, POI was 12" high at 100yrds. There was no way to lower the front sight as it is countersunk and the screw will not tighten properly. I do like mine though, much better than the original. I would recommend only getting the rear firesight and use the original front sight post so that you can maximize your windage and elevation. The fiber optic does work well in low light but not quite as in the pictures(shows it glowing). As for using it as a red dot, doesnt work for me. Best to align up the sights. Hope this helps!

So the AK-47 front post sight with the tritium bead will work on the SKS? Dilligaf says yes and Satain says no...I'd prefer the tritium bead to the fiber optic front sight, but will it fit? Is the AK-47 front sight interchangeable with the SKS?

To make it work on a SKS, you need to drill and tap a SKS drum for it. 1/4" by 64 tpi tap.
AK Front sight is .075” tpi thread. .33” (8.4mm) long, .12” (3mm) wide, .95” (24mm) high. .07” (1.8mm)

There for you can buy it and make it fit and/or you can get this guy;

And if you modify the front post drum you should get the combo that includes this guy;

um would you be mad if i rummaged your garbage for said sight?

i really dont wanna spend any more cash on the SKS but its still missing stuff...ie the front sight is still factory...

I bought the Williams rear aperture and front fire sight as a set from sksman.com
I like it, but.....I've only put about 20 rounds through with these sights on. The front sight sits a little off straight vertical, some shimming may be required.
But not too bad for $40.

Hey Satain, if I could ask you if the AK47 rear sights will fit the sks? I buggered mine while removing to mount the williams peep sight. I Am looking for a replacement. The AK's are a sweet looking sight compared to the sks. Thanks for any help with this, Buzz

The windage one yes but the hashing marks do not accuratly relate to the yardage. As for the tritum one's I gave up on tring to make them run.

Thanks for the advise, greatly appriciated! Now to find one. I am a nube with the SKS and I am asuming that the Russian sights all mount the same and there are no variations to the to assembly other than the rare pinned type (Chinese?) Any tips on finding either the SKS or AK blade sights in nice condition? I am watching the parts post and have not seen any yet. Thanks again for the help
