Anyone have experiance with Williams peep sights? Thinking about getting any from scopes and back to using a good peep sight again. How hard is it to mount on a rifle with no current sights?

I put a williams peep on my SKS for deer. The front sight is fiber optic and it feels almost like using a red dot. It gets you on target very quickly. Williams makes very good stuff - lots of manufacturers are shipping their new guns with Williams sights. Not sure about fitting to a rifle with no current sights. Williams makes a model for almost every rifle. I know Ellwood Epps in ON carries a crazy selection of them and they ship. www.ellwoodepps.com

Some commercial rifles have a pair of drilled and tapped holes on the left side of the action for a Williams. Holes would be 5/8" apart, as I recall.

Williams also makes sights to mount on the scope holes on the top of the rifle. If the rifle has holes ready to take the Williams sight, it is a real easy thing to do. Otherwise the rifle will probably need two holes drilled. Not a big deal.

One suggestion. If a rifle with a Williams sight is propped up againt a car, tree, cabinet, etc and falls over, the bridge is easily bent. Be careful.

I've got a Williams on my P14 and it is great. Best bet, if your rifle is not already drilled and tapped, is take it to a gunsmith and they'll do it. Two holes and tapped can't be very expensive.

I had a Williams' peep on a Win 94 for a while - I originally learned to shoot with the Queen, so the peep is more natural for me than open sights. It was a nice piece of engineering, and was easy to mount on that particular rifle.

I would heartily recommend their products.

Williams makes a great selection of receiver sights and several different models. Their Foolproof model has MOA click ajustment capability. Another version which has less fine ajustment capability is called the Guide model. It is designed to mount onto the rear receiver ring and uses the holes for the scope bases. I have a Guide model on a 22 that uses the dovetail on the receiver to mount. Very solid.

If you are planning to mount the receiver sight on a bolt action, Lyman makes an excellent receiver sight with great ajustability.

You can get a pile of info by using Google. Try the Williams website.

RE mounting a receiver sight onto a rifle with no current sights. I have had it done. The rifle was a Browning BBR in 30.06.
I had a gunsmith drill and tap the receiver and install a Williams Foolproof receiver sight. For the front, the gunsmith installed a front ramp sight made by Lyman. Marbles and I believe Williams also make the ramp style front sights. The only trick in all of this is selecting the correct ramp and bead height to correspond to the height of the rear receiver sight. If I recall, Williams has a chart that helps in the selection of ramp and bead height.
Should be on their website.
Ramps can be soldered on or drilled and tapped to mount.

Another source of Receiver sights and front sight ramps is New England Custom Guns. Google NECG and browse for their peep sights. Nice stuff.
