Hi Guys n Gals,
I have a Sig 1911R BSS 45 acp.....LOVE IT !!! Bought it from a CGN'r and I gotta say I'm really impressed with this gun.

Anyway, this is a full size 1911 and my hands are not. And what I'm having trouble with is reaching the mag release AND the slide catch. I can juuuuust barely reach the mag release but find I'm having to make a slight twist grip adjustment to get to these buttons.

So I was looking at the Wilson Combat parts for the 1911 on BROWNELLS, and the price is reasonable for me (about $33 for each). The "bulletproof" series of these parts seem to be what I'm leaning towards, but when I look at the reviews that people submitted, some are saying that the slide catches actually broke, the finish wore off. Good reviews for the mag releases, but not as many for the slide catches.

Can anyone offer me some advice on these? Maybe look at Ed Brown parts, or stay with WC.....need some advice and or links to said parts. Thanks in advance folks.

The WC Bulletproof line are really nice. Don't know about the slide catch, I bought WC for other parts. That said, my Ed Brown slide catch is going on 3yrs and still going strong. If you are going with SS parts, the Ed Brown SS colour is more of a brighter silver while the WC ones are more of a dull grey. Can't go wrong with either brands.

I have an extended mag release on my Trophy Match and Para Elite Pro. Both works flawlessly. I had a little bit of fitting to do on my Para. Besides that, can't complain. As for the slide catch, try reaching it with your weak hand instead.

not to many have big enough hands that they can reach either of those without rolling the pistol to some extent in the hand. I know i sure can't. Never been a problem, and the stock slide stop is less likely to get held down inadvertently and the only benefit i've received from an extended mag release is the chance of hitting it when I don't want too.

I do like a wider safety then stock. The bullet proof line are all excellent. I've used several of the parts they make.

hmmm Good points. but like I said my hands are on the small side, and having an extended slide catch or mag release I doubt I'll hit it when I don't want to. Thanks for the tips and advice on this guys, I appreciate it !

Look around for someone who replaced the skinny STI grips on their Trojan. They might be the perfect answer for you and perhaps a bargain as well (since who ever took them off obviously didn't like them). I got rid of my Trojan's skinny grips about 10 minutes after I got the gun.

Hey Ivan, never thought of that...I'll look around, thanks

I have small hands. about 10 years ago i put slim line grips on 2 of my 1911's i'm now changing them back as i find I shoot them better with the standard width. With the super slim ones, the curve of the frame at the beavertail hammers the joint of my right thumb.
