Ok, so I ordered a side saddle from brownells. I thought I would pay the few extra dollars to see what the quality of the wilson side saddle is like over the tacstar side saddle.

The parcel arrived no troubles. Opening it I found a ziplock bag with a wilson combat leaflet in it and a TACSTAR side saddle! It says tacstar right on it. If I wanted a tacstar s.s. I would have saved my self the $$$ and ordered that!

Will somebody please explain to me why brownells is taking tacstar side saddles out of their clamshells and selling them as wilson combat?

I know that Brownells is a reputable company, so there must be an explanation for this, but I cant wait to hear it.

I have emailed them. I will post their reply here.

any idea as to why?

Good point though. I will email them right now too.

Because they don't make one themselves but they are a major tactical shotgun aftermakket supplier.... Happens all the time. For example, I bought a Knoxx forend for my 870 to go with my Knoxx spec-ops butt stock. Took it out of the package, it's a Houge overmold forend! Even has Houge stamped on it... Yjat's the nature of the business, I guess.

Wilson has been repackaging other people's stuff for a while- it's called outsourcing. A lot of others do it. There are only so many manufacturers out there. sometimes the same manufacturer will produce an item for several competing firms, to their specifications- which can vary, so an expensive item will have more quality control and be at tighter specs than a cheaper one off the same line. kind of like Caddies and Chevies using the same body frame and doors...

if you want a quality sidesaddle check out Mesa Tactical

There is no difference. It's the same unit in a different package. If it was some sort of OEM deal, the manufacturer would most likely be stamping the unit with the Wilson name and not Tac-Star.... I'd say send it back to Brownells, but the shipping cost will probably make it not worth you time to do so...

Yeah, it would be a waste of time too.

At least this info is out there...

I cant wait for my replies from brownells and WC

yeah tacstar is fine. I agree. I just figured I would spend a few extra dollars and go with the WC to see what I get. Nothing wrong with a tacstar, if thats what you paid for.

I'd be pissed too. I'd be buying it because it's wilson combat, if I wanted it to have cheap ass "tac-star" on it, I'd buy tac-star. At the very least you should have been informed somewhere about what you were buying. I'm sure it's fine, but that's not the point.

You're right, it isnt the point... hell I'd go as far as saying its false advertising! Thats like ordering a Remington and a Savage shows up...

You say that like it is a bad thing. :D

Does it say "Wilson" anywhere on it? If so then that's what you paid for. The name. You are among the many consumers who incorrectly felt they were getting something extra by choosing a name brand.

Just like the Browning shotgun owners who discover that a Miroku is the same gun made in the same place by the same people at a lower price. Or the Weatherby shotgun owners when they learn that their gun was made by SKB and cheaper if bought with that brand on it.

I think you have missed the point claybuster and repete.

I paid about 25% more expecting better quality. I did not even get the name. It says tacstar all over it.

I dont know about ford and mazda, but if one is 25% more expensive than the other, go with the cheaper name for sure.

I feel ripped off. Buy a wilson/tacstar side saddle if you want but I think this is crooked. I must re-iterate, there is no difference between this and a tacstar S.S.
