Win 1897- a few ?'s

For bear defense I would go with something else or at least test cycle hard with the shells you'll use. I have two of them - a fixed barrel trench gun and a takedown chopped barrel version- and neither of them will cycle properly with cheap ($40-$45 a flat) winchester ammo :(.

Odd...I don't have that problem with any of mine. Anybody else seen this with theirs?

I don't have feed/cycling problems with any make of shells.

I have 3 Winchester 97's, a 1945 Trench Gun and 2 for Cowboy Action (DOM 1906 & 1913). I had a slight problem with feeding cheap Winchester ammo also. I ordered a 12 gauge flexhone and oil from Brownells and polished the chamber. Those shotguns will feed anything now. I like them so much I sold the Mossberg that I used for over 20 years.

I have two, a 1942 Trench and a 1906 riot solid frame. I use the ought-six for CAS and its been good. It sometimes doesn't grip the round when coming out before extraction, but hasn't been too big a deal. Love the '97
