I’ve just received a 43 in very good condition. I’ve yet to shoot it. I have 2 other hornets. For those in the know what is current value in this rifle. No pics as I can’t post from this tablet. Just an idea for a standard 43 in good to very good shape. Not sure if I will sell as I like gopher shooting with a hornet. Will definitely keep it till I have some range time. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. AJ

Cool gun. Can’t say about the value. Prices seem pretty silly these days for vintage Winchesters. You may need smaller bullets for that though due to the age. Sierra still sells .223 bullets for the Hornet. .224s may be okay though. Maybe slug the barrel just to be sure.

Very nice find!

I too was gob smacked by the auction site prices.
Almost as equally when I stumbled across the A-bolt Hornet in the EE this morning.
Has one a few years back for a short time in a A-bolt 22 Hornet and had fun with it.
Now have the Hornet in a Brno Fox-II that likes to shoot ...with thanks to those who provided some reloading tips.
Op Lil gun is your friend ...

The rifle is indeed a .224 with a 1/16 twist. I hope to get it to the range in next couple days. I’m sure most of my reloads are too long as I have single shots. I have some factory I’ll try. I cleaned up the guns I received ( estate ) and was surprised by the condition. Seems seldom shot with mostly storage bumps. Thanks for looking.

Made from 48-56, this one is 51. So 224 for sure. Checked my ammo pile and do indeed have some factory and reloads that will fit in mag. Now if only wind would stop for a few days. Still can’t put a $ value but suspect it should be between $1000-1500. Sound reasonable?

It shoots well. Any pointed bullets seem to long. Liked flattish HP and round nose, hard ball and soft point. If I was to keep or I’ve some suitable bullets and some lil gun, 1680, and 296. I’m feeling like I’m a single shot guy first, but we’ll see.

Some of the guys who reached out to me suggested some stubby 40grn bullets available from Budget Shooter Supply, but Henry is on Vacation until early September.
I'm sure they are available elsewhere and I'll be ordering a hundred when he return fully recharged and refreshed from a great summer.
I started with 10 grn of LiL Gun and next time round will be 11.5 and 12 grn for final tests.
But, moment of rock at 100yrds the Brno FoxII makes lead splatter and rock dust.
Tight Groups,
Rob
