Hello
I just grabbed a win 94 stripped barreled action .
I’m looking a trying to build it back into a functional firearm.
Just wondering what the numbers on the barrel and receiver, represent?

This is the response I got from WinchesterView attachment 704443

The "303" could mean three things: the cartridge after rebarreling; a rack number for an institution; or a replacement serial number. Have you checked if a .303 Savage or British chambers?

Edited to add - look for signs at the muzzle that the bore has been lined from .344 cal to .308 cal.

Should have it in a couple of days, I’m anxious to start ordering parts, just not sure what it is yet.

Also the # on the receiver are different, looks 323 with the 2 being stamped over another number

My thought was rack number too but the markings on the receiver are a bit odd.

Would definitely look for signs of modification, measure the bore and maybe do a chamber cast. Groove diameter for 32spl is around 0.321"-0.323"

Do you have a cache of parts? If not, and if you have to buy all the parts, I doubt that the project is going to make sense.

Then there is the question about why it was stripped for parts. Better check it over very carefully before starting.

From your pics, that doesn't read "303" to me.

If you look closely, the barrel stamp has a small "2" inside the 0 and the receiver stamp has the 0 overstamped with a 2

IMHO, the previous owner was a hand loader and those stamps indicate the bullet diameter that worked best

That looks like a fun project and if the bore is good, get some appropriate dies and brass. If you can't find headstamped cases, 30-30 Win cases can be necked up. They will need to have the overall length trimmed back and fireformed of course but it's easily doable.

The 32 special was quite underrated IMHO.

I should have it in a few days, probably not a feasible project, but it only cost me a couple hundred.

I guess the first thing I need to do , is find out what those numbers mean

This was the one in Parry Sound? Grabbed it before i could! Glad it went to a gun nut. Ive got a rusted out 94 30-30 that i was thinking of swapping the parts over to. I dont really need another gun project at the moment so maybe you did me a favor.

Maybe.. lol
I’m gonna need some parts.

That is not a serial # parts match stamp. Those marks are not factory. Somebody stamped those after production, most likely someone who modded the gun in some way. Those stamp marks don't even match the size and style of the original in the photo.

Ya, don’t look right.
Couple of smaller marks as well , almost as if someone was practicing with their new toy.
