Win 94 38-55 rebarrel

Syco, have you actually shot the rifle? It may still be usable as is

I have an old Marlin and its rough too, but I just run it dirty but lubed to prevent further corrosion
With powder coated leads it actually isn't much of a chore to clean
It shoots well enough for my needs, would hit a deer no trouble
Had to fiddle with the sights to get it on target enough though as the 26" barrel has a slight kink to it too

Give it a thorough cleaning and shoot it with modest loads.
If it's a stinker, try fire lapping it.
I would try 40 or 50 lapping loads to smooth out the pits a bit.
If you're not going for belchfire performance, it may suffice.
If you want hunting power, it may give acceptable accuracy for a few shots.
Little to lose at this point.
If you go for a reline, the original markings will be preserved.

Some people are agahst at that many, but I often need that many with an elderly Enfield that has had its throat badly eroded from cordite ammunition.

I tried pretty much everything in mine and it is a no go. The last inch or so at the muzzle doesn’t show any rifling 😝

I don’t think re-lining to 38/55 would work in a carbine, the liner is 39/64. I don’t have a 94 -38/55 so not sure of muzzle diameter but I had an octagon 32/40 re-lined, albeit on a Marlin with a 26” barrel and the 9/16-36/64 liner left little room.

Contact Ron Smith at RKS gunsmithing. He does various relines. 38-55 is a lower pressure black powder cartridge originally, so I would think it's doable. - dan
Really think not enough steel in carbine barrel for 38/55 liner. 25/35 or 30/30 no issues maybe 32/40 or 32 special have enough meat for drilling.
Sorry missed post above.
