Hey guys,

i have a nice pre 64 win 94. the problem with it is that yesterday i leaned it against my work bench and the whole front sight popped off the barrel. it sight seemed to be adhered to the barrel with some sort of compound. is that the correct manner to attach these things or is it just a quick fix by the previous owner.

how do i put it back on?? is it something that the gun smith should do inorder to have it strongly secured??

thanks in advance for your info.:D

Pre-64 - 94 sights are not glued on... actually I don't know of any 94's that had glued on sights...

It isn't original...

i should also add that there is not dovetail for the front sight to sit in. that is why im so confused as to how this thing gets re-attached "the correct way"

"...with some sort of compound..." Sounds like somebody tried to epoxy it on. This'd be one of the few times epoxy isn't the answer.
"...silver soldered to the barrel..." So if you have the tools(a propane torch, about $15 in Crappy Tire, and some silver solder. Note: It must be silver solder. Read the label carefully.) and the skill, you can put it back on yourself.
If the bluing is still on the spot where the sight belongs, that's why it came off. Silver solder doesn't like bluing. As daft as that sounds. A bit of emery cloth will take it off with no fuss.
