Wondering if I could solicit some help in deciding if a Win 94 (made around 1920) with a long barrel and in sound condition (metal and wood are VG+) would be a "good" buy at $400. I dont "need" another 30-30, but it is different and would fit nicely into a niche in safe#3 vacated by another shoulder-breaker:D

Price check in Aisle 3?

Thanks

Rifle or Carbine? Finish? Round or octagonal barrel?

I would buy it even if finish was worn but it had an unused/barely used barrel. Hard to tell without seeing it.

No one 'needs' another 94, but heck....why not? They aren't making 1920 Win 94's anymore!

And if for some reason you decide not to proceed with your endeavour.......;)

as stated above it's hard to tell without seeing it. even at that , will it take shells, 3 or 4 , into the magazine? will it cycle shells when levered?is the barrel pitted? i've seen more than a few of these that were purchased and not in bad shape on the outside, but were pretty rough on the inside(not cleaned very regularly). IMO ,before i would pay $400.00 for a rifle that old i would want to really check it out on the inside if possible.

For any shootable long-barreled rifle, assuming a bore in reasonable shape, the price isn't bad. If metal and wood are as you say, VG+, and the bore is shootable, I would grab it now.
