Win 94 stock finish plus Loading issue continues Post 7

The "no primer" might create an additional function testing issue, the nose of the bullet may enter the primer pocket.

The magazine spring should be inside the magazine follower. Any chance the end of the spring is caught between the mag tube and mag follower?...a clipped end maybe?

Is the follower bent or out of round?

That being said, if this was a manufacturing error of this magnitude, surely someone who owned this rifle before would have unbuggered it by now.

Or…he could have just put it up for sale, on consignment at a site sponsor, letting someone else discover what surprises await.

The drill rounds/dummy rounds I made have flat nose berry 150 gr. The nose doesn’t enter the primer pocket. Good thought, though.

Follower is undamaged and circular. Spring fits easily into the follower.

I did some experimenting with my own 94 (pre '64) and this is what I think might be happening; the cartridge stop, the little stud at the front of the link, may be a bit too long. When you put the first cartridge in, the stop pushes up on it, and when you try to insert a second round the rim catches on the frame.

That's what happens when I try to load with the bolt open, but with the lifter in the lower position. With the action open, the stop is lifted up slightly and I get the rim-lock against the frame. When you load with the action closed, as normal, the stop is lowered out of the way.

The usual problem with post-'64's is the stop gets worn down and lets a round escape from the tube, and under the lifter. I wonder if someone has had it welded up as a form of repair and left it a bit too tall.

I put a little bit of green felt marker on the cartridge stop, and cycled a couple of dummy rounds through it. The green ink is still there, so I don't know if it is making contact with the incoming or outgoing rounds.

I did find an anomaly: Digging around for information I find many posts in many forums talking about the Loading Gate, and a rib on the back of the gate, which is used to push the round (that is already in the mag tube) further into the magazine when the loading gate is closed. Further desperation shows me two clear pics of the back of the loading gate:

Look at the sharp angle at the front of the loading gates above, and compare that to the angle on the loading gate out of this rifle:

Quite the different angle, it seems to me. A second question is if this would give me the problem I am getting, which is being unable to load a second round; during the attempt to load the second round, the loading gate is not contacting the first round and the second round is attempting to slide in through the loading gate, when the LG has NO contact with the first round.
