I just looked at an almost new Winchester Model 94AE. It does not have the Win logo and address on the barrel and also none on the tang where they are usually found. The only mark anywhere on it is the serial number on the bottom of the frame in the usual spot and a single proof mark on the barrel. It looks original and does not appear to have had the barrel changed or any reblue done. The stocks are what appear to be birch and there are no Winchester marks under the wood or on the wood. Do any of the Win collectors here have any ideas? Is this normal? I looked at my safe queen 94AE and it has the Winchester info in the usual place on the barel left of the rear sight but the tang is bare.. TKS...Dave

Shopping in Westport, were you?
I saw one that matches that description up there today. I think that the receiver had been refinished since there was some pitting evident and the edges weren't sharp. I don't think there ever was any brand stamped on it though. Serial number was in the 5,000,000 range.

Dantforth..glad you're still out there....my 94AE has s/n(over 5,000,000) on bottom of receiver(no markings on tangs) and usual Winchester markings on the barrel. Mines a .356 Win. and very accurate, it didn't do well with lighter bullets including pistol bullets at low vel., but was magic with a 250gr. Fp GC.

Smoji eh??? I guess I should stop one day to say hello. Smartie! I have to believe that the barrel should have been roll stamped as there is no model number or caliber present. Some collector will probably want one which is completely unmarked. I would just register as what it is and leave it at that. TKS guys....Dave Ben, I am still here. I am going to lighten up the gun room starting soon. I have a lot of stuff I don't use any longer.....probably see me on the EE.
