I have a Win black shadow in .270, the precision is.............The idea of changing the barrel in .308 target contour with a new stock has cross my mind. Does the black shadow action is a good one to start a built up, or I shoud look elsewhere?

thanks

It's a Win 70 with a different stock. It'd be fine for rebarreling except that the mag well is for a longer cartridge.

I dont think that a longuer mag well can play on the accuracy, if im right I can live with that.

The fact is that I dont know much about win action. Are they good for the type of project i'm want, in comparision of a 700 BDl action...I notice that on some win the extractor war on the exterior, and mine is kind of incorporated in the bolt.

thanks

The longer action is nice for seating bullets so the OAL is a bit longer, or if you go to a slightly longer cartridge like 6.5x55 or 6.5-.284.
Any particular reason you're thinking about .308?

I just have a Blk shadow, and thinking about makin a tactical target rifle with the action...I'm newbie about this stuff sooo lot's a question tu come! hahaha

thanks

If you plan to compete in a game that only allows .308, then by all means build a .308.
If you just want a tac-target/plinking/heavy hunting rifle, there are better choices.

There is nothing good nor bad about the Win 70 action. For a real shooter, you will likely need to check and correct the factory tolerances, just like a Rem 700. From there, it will work as well as any 700.

There is little issue using the long action in a 308 but as said earlier, if you don't need to, use something else. Choices in 6 to 7mm are so much better.

If you are really on a budget, sell the Win as is. Take that money and pick up a Savage HB in 243, 223 or even 308. You will have a much better rig right off and it will likely shoot as well as you need for a very long time. Stocks are readily available now as are other accessories.

If you want to build a competition rifle, barrels can even be swapped at home.
