Win. Ballistic Silvertip?

As mentioned above, the 8mm Ballistic tip is a different (much tougher) design than the 168gr 30 cal mentioned in the original post.

At 308 size/velocity I'd be looking to:

1. Nosler Accubond
2. Nosler Partition
3. Barnes TTSX

With a preference towards the Accubond.

I'd take a 180gr. Federal blue box 308 round for moose before I chose a 168gr ballistic tip.

FWIW, I loaded about 250 ballistic tips last year for various calibers and various applications. They have their place and in 30cal, moose hunting isn't one of them. For other many applications, they can't be beat. It is one of the most accuarate hunting bullets available.

Just shows how an individuals experience can make preferences. The above 3 bullets are my favorite 3! However, my personal experience with shooting animals with all 3 were exactly the other order!

1: TSX
2: Partition
3: Accubond

For a varmint bullet, the ballistic tips are tops and in my 220 swift and 222 rem I go through a lot.

Thanks guys for all the feed back. I'll be leaving the BST home next week and hopefully get to use them latter in the season on some deer. Sounds like they will perform well on deer and they shoot SO nice out of one of my .308s.
I've shot several moose with Core-Lokts, and Speer Hot-cores and have plenty of that stuff around so I'll got back to either one of those.

Try your favourite well-stocked Gunshop for a box or two of 308Federal Premium 180 gr. Nosler Partitions. Code P308E if it's an autoloader ... or P308G ("High Energy") for other action-types
( Federal does not recommend the P308G load for autoloaders ). Their so-called High Energy load is rated at 2740 fps vs 2570 fps for the P308E load.

Highly doubtful you'd find this product at a Canadian Tire or Walmart !

I've shot a couple of moose with 308 Core-Lokt 180 SP's ... they didn't go far - and the bullets worked. More satisfying results on others with Partitions however ...

Between the two Winchester brands, for moose, my choice would still be the silver-packaged 308 - 180 gr. Silvertips
(X3083) over the black packaged 308 - 168 grain Ballistic Silvertips (SBST308A) As far as I can recall, Winchester does not put out a BST load in 180 gr. for the 308.

If you've got 180 gr, CoreLokts or Speer Hot-Cores, by all means use 'em confidently. Where you put either bullet of this type still counts the most !
