I picked up a Win. M 100 in .284 win. the other day. And dies for it. Factory ammo is rare and expensive. I have located a source of brass and so I am looking for some advise on good "HUNTING LOADS" for it. That is why I am posting this here, though I will post something similar some time on the reloading forum. I wanted to check with the Hunting reloaders before the "reloaders".

That is to say I don't just want a round that shoots great groups at MAX Velocity. I want a good shooting load that performs well on game.

I have some 150 gr. Nosler partition S.P.spitzers I used to load in my 7X57. Think I'll start with them.

I'll try again. Are there no Win. M100 (in .284) hunters out there who handload for it???

I bought dies for it the day I bought the rifle and have found a source of brass. Factory loadings ar rare and expensive.

I had a 100 carbine in 284W some years back and shot 150gr partitions and cor-locks(cant recall powder) with good resuts on deer.Got all my goodies and brass at EPPS.Also if I remember correctly it didnt cycle well with warm/hot loads.

4350, and 139/140's, and always used mag primers(don't quite remember why)
If the game gets bigger move to a tougher pill.
I favored the Hornady BTSP's of 139 gr. they killed lots of deer dead as they come, even a few moose fell to it as well.
If you want penetration go to a Partition, or TSX.

I had a 284 that I sold recently and I reloaded for it. But I would caution you to not use fullhouse loads in an auto rifle. Mostly because the mechanism although it may be strong is not as strong as bolt gun. I would consult at least three reloading manuals and start at the published starting load.In an auto rifle I would use a medium burning powder such as H4895 and work up carefully watching for any sign of pressure.Your case overall length will be restricted by magazine length and chamber and throat dimensions of your rifle.
