Win M1400 Skeet

I may have the chance to buy a M1400 skeet. This gun has minor wear on the reciever but the wood particularly the butt is gorgeous! Is this normal for this model. I know very little about this model Win. Looking for input. What's it worth and are there any known problems with this model. I would be putting a couple boxes a week through it.

I don't know much about this model besides what I saw on another site in answer to a similar question. From what I read Winchester put some nice wood on these models. Also one was used by Wayne Mays to set a skeet record at one time. As to value I'd have to dig out one of my price books. A friend of mine used to shoot a field grade 1400 every week for a couple of years, held up fine. Hope this helps a little.
 
I was a winchester warranty gunsmith for yrs and had plenty opportunity to work on these guns they do have there issues double feed problems do to the plastic inserts in the mag tube slow sluggish cycling do to the gas system a 3 dressed up as a 9 is still a three if you bought it for $300.00-$350.00 it would be fine .
 
What he said. Don't pay a lot. They were produced on a budget. Now the Super X-1, that's something to keep an eye open for . . .
 
Winchester M1400

Had one of these back in the mid 80s,I believe mine was a 1400 MKII skeet model. Nice gun worked extremely well for me with standard skeet loads using 71/2 shot. Barrel had a front and mid barrel bead and nice wood on it. Not sure but 26 inches seems to stick in my mind as the barrel length. Paid about $300.00 for it as the second owner. If the one you are buying operates as well as mind did you should do well with yours. Let mine go in early 1991 when my local skeet facility stopped usage over supposed safety issues.

The 1400's were manufactured '65 to '73. $ 300 would be lots !

At this age, I would want to check that it cycled properly with target loads before I turned over any cash.

A lot of 1200, 1300 & 1400's in Skeet & Trap trim, as well
as the Super X-1's had surprisingly nice wood on them.

The SX-1 Skeet is the one to grab.
