Can't find a whole lot of m70 related threads on here.
Hopefully I am not the only one with a interest in this and assuming some of you have gone down this path for yourselfs or others.
If one was so inclined to customize/mod/do upgrades to a win m70.
What would you do/get done, cost associated with said work, why and in what order?

I'm interested in info relating to a f.n baco sporter in 300wsm but let's also keep the thread focused on all CRF models in general.
Feel free to show off your riflemans rifle and your experiences and opinions of them.

I've thought about building a Carlos Hathcock clone out of one if I can find a good donor action. I'd put a fluted 30-06 heavy barrel in it and the old Unertl 10x optic. In general though it would be good to have any model 70 blueprinted if possible and at least free floated and bedded properly.

The only upgrade,I’d do to an M70, is get rid of the MOA trigger and replace it with a proper old school M70 trigger....there,done.

I thought about building a m70 sniper rifle. Got a real nice original
barrel in 3006 Finding old winchester target rifles or old m70s isn't
easy. Got one target 308 1968 rifle a few years ago

I have an extreme weather in .30-06. I personally LOVE the trigger. Glass rod snap. Although I do have a .308win push feed Mod 70 that is a goshdarned animal magnet. It has gotten several tons of game and is mega-accurate. I cant bring myself to sell it... ever. I even broke the original wood stock off at the wrist in a quad rollover, and found a synthetic to replace it. Amazingly, it shaved off 0.25" @ 100 with the same loads. Nothing wrong with PushFeed 70's accuracy.View attachment 188259

I’ve got a push feed XTR Winlite in 270, absolute laser, smoother than anything I’ve ever handled, and a trigger that rivals any Sakos I’ve ever seen.perfect mountain rifle

The M70 ruled the roost before the M700 Rem showed up to become the Big Mac of sporting rifles. Folks shouldn't trash talk the M70s though incl the post-64 models. The triggers have always been very good and accuracy from the hammer forged barrels has always been excellent. I bought 3 of the post-64 models incl a .25-06 in 1977, a .308 Featherweight in 1981 and a .223 Carbine in 1984. They've gotten me a lot of deer and small game over the years and have never disappointed.

I will try to post pics, but I lazy....

That's a nice little collection you have going on.
Do you prefer the Alaskan or sporter 338?
An Alaskan or African is near the top of my list for future acquisitions.

Have 70's in 240 Gibbs, varmint gain twist RKS barrel, sitting in a HS precision stock. 270 Win, was going to rip it apart for a project, but it shot so well I couldn't bring myself to do it. 6.5-06 and 6.5 x 55. Winlite in 300 Win Mag in the LW McMillan stock they came with. Have another Winlite I did tear down, haven't got around to building it into anything yet. Have a 70 receiver in 223 bolt face, and another two with magnum bolt faces. Barrels in 375 and 416 for those two, when I can get to it. - dan
