In excellent condition, Mint wood stock with double cross bolts, hinged floorplate, rings and bases and iron sights, going by the serial # it was made in 1964 but is push feed. I'm wondering what it would be worth as I don't need 2 rifles in the same caliber, I have pics but don't know how to post them.

I'm thinking that is a model 70 magnum African model and not supergrade. It would have an ebony forend cap and be engraved so on the floorplate if it was supergrade. Nice chunk of wood though!

The book price isn't real high for these rifles from 64 to current push feed. For 98% and adding a premium for the calibre its ~ 5 to $600. Tough one to price but I'm thinking at least that up here, maybe more  I haven't seen one for sale that I can recall....

I've looked at a bunch of pics on the net and it looks like it could be either the model 70 magnum African or the model 70 magnum Safari express, I'm not sure if there's a difference between these two and also I saw the term "super express" also but i'm not sure how to identify this rifle.

The only "super express" magnums shown in the blue book are classic models (after 1994) with controlled round feed. All that is shown for the 1964 to 1994 rifles in your configuration is the model 70 magnum (called the African Model if in .375 or .458), or the super grade which would be engraved on the floorplate. Unless I or the book are missing something Max your rifle must be a model 70 African...

Thanks Salty for the great info and thanks Lorne for posting the pics, I only found for sale ads on American websites for this rifle and the prices ranged from 600$ to 1150$ but that's not always an accurate indicator of it's value on the canadian market. Oh well I have an idea what i'd like to get out of it so i'll try at that price and if it doesn't sell i'll keep one for each hand.

Serial No. 700,### or above is a 'post '64 Mod. 70.

The Mod. 70 "Magnum" was a post '64 push feed, made in .264 Win Mag, 7mm Rem Mag., 300 H & H, 300 Win Mag & 338 Win Mag, but also as an "African" in 375 H & H & .458 Win Mag. Typically a $ 500 - $ 750 gun, with perhaps a $ 100 - $ 150 premium for thje African version.

With "Winchester" ( USRA ) now no longer making the Mod. 70 ... I would try for $ 800 - $ 1,000 for the bare gun, no scope.

Isn't that in the ball-park for a new one?

I'm not sure about the checkering, how can I tell the difference?

I can send detailed pics by e-mail if that would help.

I would be selling with the scope for that price tho.

Is it just my eyes, or has it been refinished? It looks like the the checkering on the pistol grip has been nearly sanded out.

I would think $600-$700 is about the max that I'd expect to get for a piece like that.

It certainly won't have the value that it would if it were made a year earlier.

Nice lookin' iron though!

No it hasn't been refinished and the finnish is in very good shape because the previous owner wouldn't shoot it because he was afraid of it.
