Recently my granddaughter's boyfriend came into possession of a model 21 12-gauge SxS shotgun, and asked me what I thought the value might be. I'm not really a shotgun guy, so I asked for some pics. Here they are...they show a shotgun, sorta...:)

I'm afraid the young lad may have become afflicted with the "Pawn Stars" virus...i.e. I saw one listed for sale on the internet for $60,000 so this one must be worth at least that much! I know that I owned one of these in far superior condition once upon a time, and eventually sold it for a few hundred dollars. I'm thinking that this one, in this shape, would bring a couple hundred bucks on its best day, probably much less. I'm hoping I'm wrong. Thoughts?

Are the bores rusty as well? $60,000 is certainly dreaming, but I have seen them go for $5,000 to $10,000, depending on the model, but those guns were not rusty like the one in the picture. That being said, it might still be worth more than you think.

While it will definitely not bring the high dollars that one in fine condition would bring, it will bring more than a couple of hundred dollars. It needs a total refurbish and most people that would have this done to a gun like this would have it done properly by someone who knows what they are doing. And that costs money. If there are mechanical issues, the price to refurbish goes up.
I can easily see $1200.00-$1500.00 being sunk into it pretty easily without any mechanical issues fixed. Then a restored North American gun is worth quite a bit less than one that is original. So you can see that it will not bring high dollars the way it is.

I have no idea what that shotgun is but am reasonably certain it is not a Winchester Model 21.

When I first saw the pic I thought it was maybe a Beretta but I figured they must be looking at markings on the gun?? But I agree, it doesn't look like a model 21 or a 22.
I have a Winchester model 23 but it doesn't look like that either.

The Kersten lock is a dead giveaway that it's not a Model 21, 22 or 23.

Op--remove the barrels and see if there are proof marks on the barrel flats. If so, it ain't no North American made gun. If there are marks, it will likely tell us what country it was made in and who made it.
I'm leaning toward a Beretta 409 Silverhawk. If so, it is only worth a couple of hundred in its condition.

Man this one almost killed me. I seen model 21 value and got all excited which is real hard for me to do. ;) and almost passed out when I read a couple hundred dollars
Any way I'm with you gunsaholic Beretta Silverhawk but maybe a early 60's model 471
Cheers

Here's a Model 21 Winchester. . It came with the original leather case. . Mid-1930's in excellent original condition. . Value is $4000 plus.

Here's another one I have, and early 1930's M21 with factory 3" chambers

Thanks to all who responded. I will have to ask where he got the idea that this was a Win 21. The gun is a province over from my location, and I've never seen it in person. I guess I'd better try to shoehorn some more information out of the very hopeful new owner. :)

Okay, guys, my apologies...I should have dug a little deeper before I opened this thread. I asked my granddaughter how they came to the conclusion that this was a model 21. It was the only SxS they knew the name of! This gun has no such designation...but it has an "Italian guy's name on it"! :)

Will learn more...

Reminds me of a rule we have at our deer camp. When talking over (crackly) 2-way radios, the word "deer" may only be used if you've shot one dead.

Find out the maker's name and any info stamped on the barrel flats, and I'm sure
someone here will be able to provide info.
Regardless, hope he enjoys his new gun.

In today Canadian market a standard model 21 12ga in 80% condition is $3.500-$5.500 condition is everything . And at this time the market is very soft as guys are finding out on EE .
