Win model 670 not a 70 lol

I like the push feed 70s. $400 could be a very good price, depending on the rest of the rifle, bore condition, caliber, etc.
What kind of wood is the stock? Has the metal been coated with something? Looks textured.

All the serial # that start with a G have 7 digits after the letter G , this gun only has 6 digits after the G?

I’ll get a better look when I pick it up

From that chart - end of 1969 and end of 1970 - serial numbers started with G and had six digits following - but appear to start with "9" after the "G". Appears from header on that chart that the numbers shown were the last number assigned that year. If that one says G166104, and it is a push feed version - not a pre-64 - the chart seems to suggest it was done in 1969 (?). I bought one new-from-store (very small town Saskatchewan) in 1976 - 308 Win - G116###X - so the "G" followed by 7 digits - that one, that I bought then, looks to have been made in 1974.

I am not certain how Winchester did things - no law that I know of requires serial numbers to be sequential? Maybe that number got missed earlier on and used up later? Or person on stamping machine missed a digit? Certainly not "normal" - I think - to have six digits after the G and starting with a "1". I think serial numbers are supposed to be "unique" to that rifle, but I do not think they have to be assigned in order?

Perhaps, if it is questionable to you, is worth a call to Winchester to see what they have to say about that number? Is various other sources - some on Internet and some in books, that have somewhat different "cut off" serial numbers for the various years that Winchester produced guns. And there has been various corporations using the Winchester logo on rifles - Winchester Repeating Arms, replaced by USRAC, replaced by FN - I do not know who owns the rights to the logo these days - maybe BACO (?) (owned by FN?).

On second thought, I really don’t need/want a .243
Think I’ll give it back.

Thanks for all the help

1984 it would seem.

It's a 670 not a M70. They used a different serial system than the M70.

Production of this model ended in 1979 so it's not newer than that. The earlier rifles had a 2 position safety and the later ones - M670A - had a typical Winchester 3 position safety.

I've had a few 670's. Basically what happens when a Win M70 and a Savage axis comingle. What I would call a brother in law gun. Something useable, you hand to your idiot brother in law. Functional, plain, Chevrolet not Cadillac. Most other analogies would seem insulting, not my intent. Perfect truck gun.

It sure handles nice though, trigger is a bit heavy though at 5 1/2 lbs.

Sights alone would probably run $200+, if you can even find them.

It kinda grows on ya though. lol
A clear coat and cold barrel bluing would do it good.View attachment 727037
