Win model 670 not a 70 lol

The old Winchester open triggers are very easy to adjust to a decent safe weight and eliminate over travel. Couple small wrenches and a small flat blade screw driver is all that is needed.

Staying with push feeds, the 70, 670 and 71 are interesting to compare. The 670 is an economy 70, finish, stock wood and blind magazine being the most obvious differences. The 71 is an interesting critter. Tubular receiver, sandwiched recoil lug, welded magazine and trigger housings, elimination of the bolt sleeve lock, simplified trigger and safety mechanisms.

Depending what year is discussed - I have a 1981 (?) "Westerner" in 22-250 - so is not the original pre-64 "Westerner" in 264 Win Mag. This one is push feed, matted blued receiver and shiny blued barrel, bolt, etc., three position horizontal-swing safety on the bolt, blind mag - I think it was made for at least a season or two before being morphed into the "Ranger". I can not tell the difference in the action to other push feed Model 70's - like the XTR. Somewhere I read, it was at the time that WRA went defunct as a gun maker and the management team resurrected the company as USRAC, which later got sold to FN, which might have later become part of BACO. The "scroll" on this barrel says "Winchester Model 70 WESTERNER - 22-250 Rem - " over "made in New Haven, Conn. Winchester Proof Steel" - it originally had iron sights on the barrel. I can find no stamping to say which corporation made it, just that Winchester trade mark.

Yep - is a good find, Hitzy - somewhere I had read in really old days, Olin Corp was a competitor to Western Corp to make blasting caps and similar - I think Olin Corp still owns the "Winchester" brand name, although leases it out. Is probably a disappointment to some to discover that the firearms and ammo are NOT made by the same company, any more.
