Just picked up a 1972 70 featherweight in .30-06. The barrel appears to be drilled and tapped for iron sights, were they all this way? Are a set of sights available? I have a 3200 3x9x40 mounted, just would like to mount and sight a set of irons for just in case scenario.

Sights were optional on that model, most were plain barrel. You might try e-mailing Winchester to find out about sight availability, but I kinda doubt that they will supply, since it is under new management in a new location.
After market sights are generally available and you might be able to locate some take-off sights, try the EE.

There was a transition from all rifles were sighted, to Drilled and Tapped only, to the option of sights or rings/bases, to plain barrels only. As scopes became better and better sights faded away, probably a dollar consideration also. Many times the rear sight was removed to make room for the scope and/or flip-up scope cover. Once the rear is removed, the front was removed also to help prevent tearing up soft cases. Plug screws from the mount holes were used to fill the sight holes.

Williams was probably the maker of sights for your era Winchester.

back up for a 3200
