I have a Win 71 .348cal.made in 1936.It has a redfield peep sight on back.I have seen some pictures of the 71 with the peep on the back of the bolt.I think that is origional, but did the 71 ever come out of the factory with a redfield on it or is that after market?I would also like to know a ball park figure on what these are worth. It has a butt pad put on it,wood scraped and dinged but lots of origional finish left, bluing has a couple scrapes but mostly all there.THanks for the help in advance. Dave

I think your peep was probably installed afterwards but model 71's are bringing some pretty crazy asking prices lately. I don't know if they were drilled and tapped for a receiver sight from the beginning of production or not, I know later ones were. If your stock was cut for the recoil pad that hurts the value badly even if it wasn't you still have to search for a steel butt plate that was originally there. Even if the stock was cut and the action was drilled and tapped after it left the factory around here you could still get $1000 for it pretty easy.

My favorite lever gun/caliber combo. The one I have now is the second, the first, a standard model, I foolishly sold and regretted it. I have since picked up a deluxe model that I'd say is 95%-98%.

There are a number of variations and/or options that were available which, in addition to condition, impact the value. Roughly speaking, the value lately on a standard model seems to be in the $1200.oo range and $2500.oo for a deluxe. There was a bolt mounted peep available but I don't think it was Redfield but ....... Also, some were available with Winchester recoil pads. I recently picked up a set of detachable sling swivels, which are a special size, $100.oo.

I use and plan to continue using it and as such I have a variety of jacketed bullet loads to reload for it. Hornady 200gr FP, Winchester 200gr Silvertip, Barnes 220gr original and 250gr original. This is in addition to a couple of cast bullets I get from a guy locally, 230gr GC and 262gr GC.

I've collected quite a few pages of info from a number sources, if you're interested, PM me your postal address and I'll copy it out and send it to you. Oh, where abouts here in 'Gods Country' are you located?
