I had to replace the mag tube on an 1892. I found a 24 inch tube and filed it down to 20 inches to fit. My problem is now the follower keeps being pushed into the receiver and underneath the carrier. I have an original and a reproduction follower and neither work. Is there some kind of crimp on the bottom end of the tube that holds the follwer in place? I know there aren't supposed to be any dumb questions but what did I miss?. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Jed

There is no crimp. Are you sure that the tube is seated in the recess in the front of the receiver, and that the inside diameter of the tube is correct?
I'm thinking that the follower is getting around the magazine stop because there is too much play in that area.

The .25 and .32 cal rifles had tubes with an ID of 15/32, and an OD of 17/32.
The .38 and .44 cal rifles had tubes with an ID of 37/64, and an OD of 41/64.

Another possibility is that the cartridge stop is being held back by something, or the flat spring behind it is broken, or the stop itself is broken, or just stuck.

The tube and both followers are for the 25/20 dia. so I am sure that there is no play. I am also sure that the tube is seated all the way into the recess I'll pull the forearm off and check the function again just to be sure. I replaced the spring on the stop as well and thought that it was working properly. I will double check it this evening though. Thanks for the insight Jed

That stop spring is easy to misplace during installation. (that's the polite way to put it) Check the stop, if it's not coming out all the way, chances are you didn't get the spring placed right.

The stop must be the problem It seems to go in and out ok but still the follower passes through some of the time. Since I didn't change anything but the old tube would it help to take an inch of the magazine spring over all length?

I wonder if the stop itself is worn maybe I should replace it as well?. If I have screwed up the installation of the stop spring will it still move up and down? How do I tell if it is coming out all the way? I am guessing it is not. Maybe I am in over my head do you know any smiths who are really familiar with the 92's?

put the old tube back in, and see if the stop works with it. If the problem does not go away, you have eliminated magazine issues.
The magazine spring, original, had a diameter of 23/64's for the 25&32 caliber rifles and carbines.
on a rifle, it should extend 6" beyond the end of the tube
On a carbine, it should extend 4"

I still think the cartridge stop is your problem. If you take it out, and play with it it your hand, you should quickly see how the spring can be misplaced so as not to let the stop go out far enough.
It's also possible to pinch the spring during installation, or bind it, if you didn't quite get the crud out of the slot it sits in.

Any reputable smith should be able to handle a '92, including several here on this board.

Thanks JohnY Like you suggested I put the old tube back on and the follwer seems to be touching the carrier. So the stop must be the problem. I will take the stop out one more time and try again. Or maybe twice more...
